RAYNE, LA (May 5, 2025) — The city of Rayne, Louisiana, is reeling from the tragic loss of one of its most respected and beloved law enforcement officers. Lieutenant Allen “Noochie” Credeur of the Rayne Police Department was fatally shot on Monday afternoon during a standoff stemming from a violent domestic dispute on East Harrop Street.

The Acadia Parish Sheriff’s Office confirmed that Lt. Credeur lost his life while responding to a tense and dangerous situation that escalated quickly. The incident, which took place in a quiet neighborhood, began as a domestic altercation but turned deadly as events unfolded.

According to officials and initial witness reports, law enforcement was dispatched to a residence on East Harrop Street after receiving reports of a domestic disturbance involving a stabbing. A witness told KLFY News 10 that one of their family members had been stabbed at the home, prompting a swift response from multiple law enforcement agencies.

As officers arrived at the scene and attempted to stabilize the situation, a standoff developed between the suspect and police. During the heightened and chaotic moments of the confrontation, Lt. Credeur was tragically shot. Sources within the City of Rayne have indicated that the shooting may have been accidental, though official investigations are ongoing to determine the exact sequence of events.

Emergency responders rushed to the scene and attempted to provide aid, but Lt. Credeur succumbed to his injuries. His death marks a devastating blow not only to the Rayne Police Department but to the entire community he served with honor and dedication for years.

Lt. Credeur, affectionately known as “Noochie” to friends, family, and colleagues, was a veteran officer who had dedicated his life to protecting others. Known for his leadership, integrity, and compassion, he was widely admired within the department and among residents in Rayne. His passing leaves behind a legacy of courage and selflessness that will not be forgotten.

As news of his death spread, an outpouring of grief and support flooded social media, with tributes coming in from local officials, fellow officers, and community members. The Rayne Police Department has not yet released an official statement but is reportedly preparing a memorial in Lt. Credeur’s honor.

Mayor Chuck Robichaux called Lt. Credeur’s death “a heartbreaking tragedy that has shaken us to our core,” and asked the community to keep the officer’s family in their thoughts during this incredibly difficult time. Flags have been lowered to half-staff in Rayne, and local churches and organizations are opening their doors for vigils and prayer services.

The Acadia Parish Sheriff’s Office, along with state investigators, is actively conducting a thorough investigation into the shooting. Authorities have not yet identified the suspect involved in the domestic dispute or provided details about potential charges. However, the incident has raised renewed concerns about the dangers officers face during domestic calls, which are often among the most unpredictable and volatile.

Lt. Credeur’s death is not only a loss to his department, but a reminder of the sacrifices law enforcement officers make every day. His commitment to service, even in the face of danger, will be remembered by all who knew him.

Funeral arrangements for Lt. Allen “Noochie” Credeur are expected to be announced later this week. The city is preparing to honor him with full police honors, and law enforcement agencies from across the state are expected to participate.

As Rayne mourns one of its heroes, the community stands united in sorrow, gratitude, and remembrance of a man who gave everything in the line of duty.
