It is with profound sorrow and heavy hearts that we share the news of the passing of Brett Jenkins, the beloved owner and soul behind Harp & Clover and formerly Nola on Second in Gadsden, Alabama. Brett’s untimely departure has left a deep void in the hearts of the community, his family, friends, and everyone who had the privilege to know him. Known for his infectious energy, creativity, and passion for life, Brett was more than just a business owner. He was a visionary, a leader, a friend, and a true force of inspiration to all who crossed his path.

Brett Jenkins was not just someone who ran a restaurant; he was someone who built a community. He breathed life into his businesses, creating spaces that were much more than eateries. Harp & Clover and Nola on Second were a reflection of his heart and soul—places where people didn’t just come for food, but for connection, warmth, and a sense of belonging. His ability to turn a simple meal into an experience, to make people feel like family, was a testament to his passion for creating something truly special.

His energy was electric. With just a smile, Brett could light up a room and make anyone feel at ease. His optimism and ideas were boundless—whether it was coming up with a new dish, brainstorming innovative ways to improve the restaurant experience, or simply offering encouragement to anyone who needed it. Brett wasn’t just a dreamer; he was a doer. He worked tirelessly to turn his vision into reality, and his unwavering commitment to excellence showed in everything he did. But more than that, he inspired those around him to dream big as well, encouraging everyone to reach for their goals and to believe in themselves.

To know Brett was to feel seen, valued, and supported. He had an innate ability to make people feel like they mattered. Whether you were an employee, a guest, or a friend, Brett made sure you knew that you were important to him. He had a way of listening intently, offering wisdom when needed, and always making you feel like your thoughts and ideas were valuable. Brett was the ultimate motivator—he didn’t just believe in his own dreams; he believed in the dreams of others. And he didn’t just encourage those dreams; he actively helped others chase them. That kind of support and kindness made Brett a rare and exceptional person.

In partnership with his wife, Holly, Brett created something rare and beautiful in Gadsden. Together, they built a restaurant family that was truly a family. They worked hand-in-hand to create an environment where employees were not just workers but an integral part of something bigger. The love and care that Brett and Holly poured into Harp & Clover were evident in every aspect of the restaurant—from the food to the service, to the way everyone was treated with respect and kindness. It wasn’t just about running a successful business—it was about making people feel at home, no matter where they came from.

Harp & Clover wasn’t just a job or a place—it was a heartbeat in the Gadsden community. The restaurant became a gathering spot for families, friends, and neighbors. It was where people celebrated birthdays, anniversaries, and milestones, and where they sought comfort after a tough day. Brett made sure that every guest who walked through the doors felt welcomed, cared for, and part of something larger. His commitment to excellence, integrity, and hospitality made the restaurant a beloved staple in the community. And at the center of it all was Brett—a man who lived with passion and purpose.

But Brett’s influence extended beyond the walls of his restaurants. He inspired creativity in those around him, encouraging not just his employees but everyone he met to think outside the box, to push boundaries, and to embrace new ideas. He was a man of laughter, of lightness, and of joy. He made people feel comfortable, and he made them laugh when they needed it most. His sense of humor was contagious, and his positivity was something that everyone around him gravitated toward.

Brett’s presence was felt in every corner of the Gadsden community. Whether it was at a local event, in a meeting, or just walking around town, Brett always made his mark. He wasn’t someone who stood on the sidelines; he was actively involved in his community, always looking for ways to give back, to support, and to contribute. His generosity, not just in terms of money but also in his time and energy, was remarkable. He knew that building a better community meant investing in the people around him, and he did that with heart and soul.

Now, as the community grieves this tremendous loss, we reflect on the gift that Brett’s life was to all of us. His legacy lives on in the memories of the many lives he touched. His work, his kindness, and his relentless pursuit of excellence have left a lasting impact on Gadsden and beyond. Brett Jenkins wasn’t just a business owner; he was a symbol of the spirit of community, of giving, and of lifting others up. And that legacy will continue to inspire those who were lucky enough to know him.

In the wake of his passing, Brett’s family has asked for privacy as they mourn the loss of their loved one. They are deeply grateful for the outpouring of support and love from the community, but they are taking the time they need to process their grief. The details of funeral arrangements will be announced in the coming days, and the family is deeply appreciative of the kind words and prayers they have received.

As we remember Brett, let us also honor his memory by living with the same passion, kindness, and bold creativity that he embodied. Let us continue to support each other, to pursue our dreams, and to build communities of love and respect, just as he did.

In lieu of flowers, those who wish to honor Brett’s memory are encouraged to consider making a donation to a cause that was important to him, or to offer support to the people in their own communities who may be in need.

Rest in peace, Brett. You were one of a kind. Your legacy lives on in every life you touched, and your impact will never be forgotten. Gadsden is better because of you.
