The Bethlehem community is mourning the tragic and untimely loss of 17-year-old David Nagy, a student at Freedom High School, who died in a car crash early Sunday morning, June 1, 2025. The accident occurred just before 1:30 a.m. in Bethlehem Township, near the campuses of Freedom High School and East Hills Middle School.

According to the Bethlehem Township Police Department, the crash involved two vehicles and a group of teenagers. David Nagy was behind the wheel when his vehicle collided with a parked car in the area.

Despite the efforts of first responders, David was pronounced dead at the scene. Authorities have stated that no other serious injuries were reported, and the investigation remains ongoing under the direction of the Northampton County Coroner’s Office.

The heartbreaking news was confirmed Sunday in a message from the Bethlehem Area School District (BASD), which described the incident as a “late-night tragedy” involving a Freedom High School student.

Out of respect for the family, the student’s name was initially withheld, but David has since been identified and remembered by friends, classmates, and teachers as a kind, bright, and compassionate young man.

In response to the tragedy, the district announced that counselors and emotional support staff would be made available at Freedom High School beginning Monday. “On behalf of the BASD community, we offer our heartfelt sympathy to the family and to all of those affected by this tragic incident,” the school district shared in their statement.

David was known to many as a thoughtful and respectful young man with a quiet strength. He was deeply involved in his school community and had a wide circle of friends who are now left devastated by his loss.

Teachers recall David as a dedicated student who worked hard and brought a calm, steady energy into the classroom. His peers remember him for his warm smile, gentle nature, and willingness to help others.

In addition to his academic efforts, David was passionate about cars and often talked about pursuing a career in automotive engineering or technology. He was also actively involved in extracurricular activities, including robotics and science clubs, where he was admired for his intelligence and curiosity.

Those closest to him say David had a bright future ahead—a future that has now been heartbreakingly cut short. Tributes for David have begun to pour in on social media, with classmates and community members sharing memories, photos, and words of condolence.

“He was the kind of person who made everyone feel welcome,” one friend wrote. “It’s hard to imagine school without him.” The Bethlehem Township Police Department is continuing its investigation into the crash and has asked for the public’s help in gathering information.

Anyone who may have witnessed the incident is encouraged to contact the Northampton County 911 Operations Center at 610-759-2200 or reach out to Investigator Gretchen Kraemer at 610-814-6473.

As the community grieves, plans for memorial services or tributes to honor David’s life have yet to be announced. In the meantime, Freedom High School and the greater Bethlehem community are coming together to support one another, reflect on the fragility of life, and remember a young man who left a lasting impression on everyone he met.

David Nagy’s life, though tragically brief, was filled with love, promise, and the quiet strength of a soul who touched many. He will be remembered with deep affection and sorrow by those who had the honor of knowing him.
