STUDIO CITY, LOS ANGELES — June 7, 2025: A devastating accident at Campbell Hall, a private school in Studio City, has left a community in shock and mourning following the death of Cosmo Silverman, a beloved teenager whose life was tragically cut short on school grounds.

The incident occurred just after 3 p.m. on a day like any other, when students were leaving the campus. Under a canopy typically used for pickup and drop-off — a space built for safety — Cosmo was passing through when he was fatally struck and pinned by an SUV. His father stood nearby, witnessing what no parent should ever have to endure.

According to initial findings from the Los Angeles Fire Department and police investigators, the SUV was in motion near the covered area of the school’s lot when it somehow accelerated, pinning Cosmo beneath it. Despite rapid emergency response, the teenager was pronounced dead at the scene. Officials have stated it appears to have been a tragic accident, with no criminal intent suspected at this time.

In addition to Cosmo, another student was injured, and five others received treatment for less severe injuries, including shock and emotional distress. Several were taken to local hospitals as a precaution, though all five are expected to recover physically.

Campbell Hall, known for its academic rigor and strong sense of community, has closed temporarily as the campus processes this unimaginable loss. Grief counselors have been brought in to provide support for students, faculty, and families.

In a public statement, the school expressed deep sorrow over Cosmo’s passing:

“Our hearts are broken. Cosmo Silverman was a cherished member of our community — bright, kind, and full of promise. We extend our deepest sympathies to his family and all who loved him.”

Flowers, candles, and handwritten notes now adorn the front gates of the school, where classmates and families have begun to gather to honor Cosmo’s life. A vigil is being planned by fellow students, who described him as a gentle soul, a talented artist, and someone who “always brought light into.

The Los Angeles Police Department’s traffic division continues to investigate the full circumstances of the crash. Sources close to the case indicate the SUV was being driven by an adult with a connection to the school, possibly during a student pickup. Authorities have not released further details, citing the privacy of the families involved.

While many questions remain, officials reaffirm that no drugs, alcohol, or intentional wrongdoing appear to have played a role. “This was a heartbreaking accident in a place meant to protect children,” said a department spokesperson. “We’re working to understand exactly how this occurred and to ensure safety.

The loss of Cosmo Silverman has pierced the heart of Studio City. In moments like this, communities often come together to support one another — and Campbell Hall is no exception. Parents, teachers, and students have been unified in their grief, remembrance, and resolve to honor Cosmo’s memory.

Social media has been filled with messages of mourning and remembrance. Former teachers posted memories of Cosmo’s curiosity and humor. Friends shared sketches he’d drawn, songs he loved, and videos filled with his laughter.

“He was just walking through — like any one of us — and now he’s gone,” one classmate wrote. “It doesn’t feel real. He should be here.

Though his life was tragically brief, Cosmo’s impact was meaningful and enduring. He leaves behind his parents, extended family, and countless friends, all of whom are grappling with the weight of his absence.

Plans for a memorial service are currently underway. The family has asked for privacy as they process this unfathomable loss but expressed gratitude for the outpouring of love from the school and broader community.

In honoring Cosmo’s life, his loved ones hope others will carry forward his gentle spirit, his creativity, and his ability to make others feel seen and heard.

As Studio City and the Campbell Hall community confront this heartbreaking tragedy, they are reminded of how fragile life can be, and how vital it is to cherish each moment and one another. Cosmo Silverman’s memory will endure — not just as a victim of an accident, but as a young man who was deeply loved and who made the world around him brighter.
