Patricia passed away peacefully on Wednesday morning, June 25, 2025, at the Valley Oaks Care Center in East Liverpool, Ohio, at the age of 87. Surrounded by her family, Patricia’s final moments were spent in the comforting presence of her loved ones, a fitting reflection of the warmth and devotion that defined her life.
Patricia was born in Oil City, Pennsylvania, in 1937, to Harold and Genevieve (Martin) Jenkins. From an early age, Patricia displayed an inherent kindness, a sharp intellect, and a strong commitment to those around her. Growing up in a close-knit family and community, she was instilled with the values of hard work, integrity, and compassion. These values shaped Patricia’s character and guided her throughout her life, making her a beacon of love and support for everyone who knew her.
After graduating from Oil City High School, Patricia pursued a career in administration and clerical work, a field in which she would make a significant impact. Eventually, she settled in East Liverpool, where she raised her family and became a cherished member of the community. It was here that she met the love of her life, the late Charles Barnhart. Together, they built a life filled with love, respect, and mutual devotion. Their home was always a place of warmth, where family gatherings, Sunday dinners, and late-night conversations over coffee took place, making their home a refuge for all who entered.
Patricia was deeply involved in her church and community, most notably as a long-time member of the First United Methodist Church in East Liverpool. Here, she was an active participant in the women’s ministry and various charitable initiatives, embodying the spirit of service that defined her. Her faith was the foundation of her life, and it provided her with strength during both the joyous and challenging moments. Those in her community could always count on Patricia for a helping hand, a listening ear, or words of encouragement, making her a beloved figure in East Liverpool.
Known for her gentle nature, quiet strength, and boundless love, Patricia was the cornerstone of her family. She was not just a mother but a role model, whose wisdom and guidance were cherished by her children and grandchildren alike. Patricia’s kindness extended beyond her immediate family, as she was known for writing heartfelt handwritten notes, baking during the holidays, and making each grandchild feel like the most important person in the world. Her laughter was infectious, her hugs comforting, and her words always carried weight. Her family remembers her as someone who made everything better, just by being present.
She is survived by her three children: Michael Barnhart (and wife, Carol) of Columbiana, Sandra (Barnhart) Dorsey of Lisbon, and Thomas Barnhart of East Liverpool. Patricia was also the proud and doting grandmother of eight grandchildren and twelve great-grandchildren. Each of her grandchildren brought immeasurable joy to her life, and she took great pride in watching them grow. Additionally, Patricia leaves behind many nieces, nephews, and dear friends, all of whom will cherish her memory for the rest of their lives.
In addition to her parents and her husband, Patricia was preceded in death by her sister, Evelyn Richards, and her brother, William Jenkins. These losses were difficult for Patricia, but they were part of the love and resilience that she carried with her throughout her life.
