James Andrew DeLozier Tracy City TN Obituary and Death – The community mourns the loss of Mr. James Andrew DeLozier, who passed away peacefully on Wednesday, June 26, 2025, at the age of 76. A devoted husband, father, grandfather, veteran, and educator, James lived a life grounded in humility, duty, and unwavering love for his family and country.
Born on March 10, 1949, in Lebanon, Tennessee, James was the son of the late Robert Edward DeLozier and Julia Voline Wright DeLozier. One of eight children, he was raised in a household that instilled strong values of faith, discipline, and compassion—principles that would remain central throughout his life.
James’s early dedication to service was exemplified in his honorable six-year tenure in the United States Air Force, where he specialized in cryptographic maintenance. His work in this highly technical and sensitive field was instrumental during a critical era of national and global tension, reflecting his precision, integrity, and patriotism.
After completing his military service, James transitioned to a career that would define much of his life—education. For 34 years, he taught drafting and computer building at Grundy County High School, becoming a respected and beloved mentor. He was admired not only for his extensive technical knowledge but also for his patience, kindness, and unwavering commitment to his students’ success. Countless young lives were shaped by his guidance, many of whom pursued careers in engineering, design, and information technology because of his influence.
James’s personal life was equally rich and fulfilling. He shared 50 years of loving marriage with his wife, Melba Adams DeLozier, with whom he recently celebrated a golden anniversary. Their marriage was a testament to enduring partnership and shared faith. Their daughter, Amy DeLozier Opatich, her husband Eric, and granddaughters Cameron, Alyse, and Olivia were the pride and joy of his life. Known affectionately as “Papa,” James cherished every moment with his granddaughters, actively participating in their lives and milestones.
He maintained a close bond with his extended family, including his mother-in-law Ruth Adams, his siblings, and many nieces and nephews. James is survived by sisters Helen Brethauer, Maudine West, and Marilyn Crutcher; brothers David (Shirley) DeLozier and Philip (Lee) DeLozier. He was preceded in death by three brothers—Robert, Noel, and Paul DeLozier.
A man of strong Christian faith, James was a devoted member of Providence Community Church, where his quiet participation and spiritual commitment reflected a life of purpose and service. Whether through his church, classroom, or home, James’s life radiated humility, love, and moral strength.
Graveside services will be held at 10:00 AM on Friday at Bonny Oaks Cemetery, officiated by Minister Roy Hopkins. As per the family’s wishes, no visitation will be held at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Bonny Oaks Cemetery in James’s honor.
