Phil Hibbert Ryhope Colliery Sunderland Obituary and Death – It is with heavy hearts that we mark the sudden and untimely passing of Phil Hibbert, who died on 21st June 2025 at the age of 44. A beloved resident of Ryhope, Sunderland, Phil was a man whose warmth, humour, and unwavering devotion to his family left an indelible impact on all who had the privilege of knowing him.
Phil was first and foremost a devoted father. His daughter, Amelia, was the centre of his universe. Every moment spent with her brought him immeasurable joy and pride. He was a hands-on dad—protective, affectionate, and ever-present. Whether celebrating her milestones or simply sharing everyday moments, Phil’s love for Amelia was pure and boundless.
Alongside his devotion as a father, Phil shared a deep and lasting partnership with his beloved Rachael. Their relationship was built on a foundation of mutual respect, laughter, and unwavering support. Together, they created a loving home that echoed with joy, comfort, and companionship. The many memories they made—simple joys and shared adventures—are now cherished treasures for those left behind.
Born and raised in Ryhope, Phil was the cherished son of Jean and the late John Hibbert. His close bond with his mother remained a constant throughout his life. He also carried with him the values and memories imparted by his late father, whose influence shaped the man Phil became. As a brother, Phil brought light and laughter to the lives of Jon, Lee, and Clare. Their sibling bond was strong, marked by affection, humour, and steadfast loyalty.
Phil was adored by his many nieces and nephews—Sean, Jade, Bethany, Becky, Morgan, Gina, Sammy, Katelyn, Nathan, and Olivia. His playful spirit and easy connection with children made him a much-loved uncle, always ready with a joke, a game, or a listening ear. He was equally loved as a brother-in-law and held in high regard by his wide circle of friends.
Known for his down-to-earth nature, Phil’s presence was a source of comfort and joy. Whether sharing a pint, lending a hand, or offering a heartfelt laugh, he made everyone feel seen and appreciated. His sincerity, generosity, and sense of humour made him a true gem in the community.
A service to honour Phil’s life will take place at Sunderland Crematorium on Monday, 14th July at 11:30am. Friends and family are warmly invited to attend and are welcome to join the celebration of his life afterwards at The Derwenthurst. Guests are encouraged to wear a splash of blue, Phil’s favourite colour, as a tribute to the vibrant spirit he shared with the world.
In lieu of flowers, the family welcomes donations to a chosen charity, with a collection box available at the service.
