His family was his greatest pride, and he spoke of them often with affection and gratitude.

Katie Hawkins Beall, a close friend of Chandler’s, expressed the deep sense of loss that many are feeling: “There are no words; our hearts are shattered. Flanker and I have lost a best friend, husband, father, and one of the greatest giants in U.S. Air Force intelligence that we have ever known. Brigadier General Chandler ‘Fulcrum’ Atwood has left this world better than he found it. To have known and loved him for 23 years in service and life has been an honor. We feel robbed of our future memories, but forever grateful for the privilege of being a part of his big life. Dree and kids, we love you and promise our Fulcrum will never ‘die twice.’”

Chandler’s service was marked not only by his impressive career but by his ability to build lasting relationships with those around him. His colleagues, subordinates, and peers alike admired him for his leadership, his vision, and his ability to inspire those who worked alongside him.
