With heavy hearts and profound sorrow, the family of April Mae Chase announces her unexpected passing on July 2, 2025, in Waterville, Maine. She was 64 years old. Her departure has left an irreplaceable void in the hearts of all who knew and loved her. April’s death is a painful reminder of how precious life is, and her family and friends are left grieving the loss of a woman who exemplified kindness, strength, and boundless love.
April was born on April 14, 1961, in Skowhegan, Maine, to George and Lorraine (Martin) Chase. From a young age, it was clear that April possessed a quiet strength and a boundless kindness that would become the hallmark of her life. She was raised in a close-knit family where compassion, resilience, and devotion to one another were deeply ingrained—values that April carried with her every day. Her upbringing helped shape the woman she became: someone who gave freely to others, shared love without hesitation, and cherished the connections she made throughout her life.
April’s life was built around family, and she found her greatest joy in being a devoted mother and grandmother. She deeply cherished the moments spent with her children and grandchildren, and her love for them was boundless. Whether it was celebrating birthdays, hosting family dinners, or simply sitting on the porch, laughing and telling stories, April made those around her feel special, heard, and loved. Her home was a gathering place where laughter and warmth flowed freely, and those who had the privilege of being in her presence felt a sense of comfort and belonging.
Her nurturing spirit extended beyond her immediate family to those in her community. April was well-known as someone who always had a kind word, a listening ear, or a comforting hug to offer. She was the neighbor who would bake pies for those in need, the friend who offered help without ever being asked, and the loved one who gave of herself freely and without hesitation. Her sweet nature and infectious laughter were her signature—her presence was like a warm embrace that made even the darkest days seem a little brighter.
In her professional life, April spent many years working in elder care, where she made a lasting impact on the lives of the elderly and their families. Her work was more than just a job—it was a calling that she fulfilled with grace, dignity, and a deep sense of compassion. April’s natural empathy and loving demeanor made her an exceptional caregiver. She didn’t just provide care; she provided comfort, solace, and human connection to those in their most vulnerable moments. April’s devotion to her work extended far beyond her duties—it was a reflection of her loving heart and her desire to make a difference in the lives of others.
Outside of her work and family, April found joy in the simple pleasures of life. She had a love for gardening, and the sight of her thriving plants and flowers was a testament to her patience, care, and nurturing spirit. Springtime was her favorite season, as it allowed her to connect with the earth and enjoy the beauty of nature. April also enjoyed watching the birds from her kitchen window, finding peace in the gentle flurry of activity outside. She loved taking long, scenic drives along the Maine coast, where she would take in the breathtaking views and enjoy the calm that nature offered. A quiet morning with a strong cup of coffee was something she treasured, as was the ritual of sending handwritten birthday cards to those she loved—each note filled with heartfelt words and a personal touch.
April’s life was a testament to the power of love, kindness, and dedication. She touched the lives of everyone she met, and the memories she created with those around her will live on forever. Her warmth, her spirit, and her ability to make others feel seen and valued were qualities that set her apart. April never sought attention or recognition for her acts of kindness; she simply gave of herself freely, with no expectation of anything in return. Her legacy is one of love—love for her family, love for her community, and love for life itself.
April is survived by her beloved children, Melissa Chase-Bennett (and husband Daniel Bennett) of Winslow, ME, and Jonathan Chase of Augusta, ME. She was the proud grandmother of Lily, Jacob, and Emma, who were the lights of her life. She also leaves behind her sister, Denise Carrington of Clinton, ME, and several nieces, nephews, cousins, and lifelong friends who will continue to honor her memory by living with the same grace, kindness, and compassion she embodied. April was preceded in death by her parents and her brother, Michael Chase.
A celebration of April’s life will be held on Saturday, July 12, 2025, at 1:00 PM at the First Congregational Church in Waterville, ME. Family and friends are invited to gather afterward for a reception and a sharing of memories, where they can come together to celebrate the life of a remarkable woman. During this time of sorrow, we remember April not for the tragedy of her passing, but for the joy, love, and light she brought into our lives.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made in April’s name to the Maine Alzheimer’s Association or to a local charity supporting caregivers and families. This gesture would honor April’s lifelong dedication to others, particularly those who are vulnerable and in need of support. It is a fitting tribute to the woman she was—a woman who gave so much of herself to those around her, often without asking for anything in return.
Though April is no longer physically with us, her spirit endures in the love she shared, the memories she created, and the lessons she taught. Her passing is a profound loss, but her life remains a beacon of kindness, compassion, and unwavering love. As we remember April, we celebrate her strength, her generosity, and the warmth that she brought to everyone she encountered. She was a woman who lived with a heart full of love, and that love will continue to inspire us all.
To April’s family, friends, and loved ones, we offer our deepest condolences. We mourn with you, and we share in your grief. May you find comfort in the memories of April and in the love of those around you. Though the pain of her loss is immeasurable, we know that her spirit will forever live on in each of us. Thank you, April, for the joy you brought into our lives. You will be deeply missed, but your love will remain in our hearts, guiding us every day.
Rest in peace, April Mae Chase. You were deeply loved, and you will be deeply missed. Your light will never fade, and your memory will live on forever in the hearts of those who knew you.
