With broken hearts, the community of Lompoc, California, mourns the tragic loss of Joseph Isaac Medina, fondly known as “Big Joe,” who passed away on July 2, 2025, at the age of 32 in a single-vehicle accident. His untimely passing has left a deep void in the lives of his family, friends, and the many who came to know and love him through his infectious laughter, generous heart, and passionate soul.

Joseph, often described as a man with a larger-than-life personality, was a beloved figure in Lompoc. He had an aura of warmth that enveloped everyone around him. With his kind smile, boisterous laugh, and giving nature, Joseph was someone who made an impact on everyone he met. He had an innate ability to connect with people on a personal level, leaving lasting impressions that made them feel valued and cherished. Joseph’s kindness was palpable, and it was that kindness that made him such a beloved member of his community.

Joseph was the founder and driving force behind the Birria Boyz food truck—a business born from his dream to share delicious flavors and bring people together through food. His culinary creations became a local favorite, and the food truck quickly became a staple of Lompoc’s food scene. “Big Joe” was more than a chef; he was a joyful spirit who greeted every customer with warmth, often turning strangers into friends and meals into memories. The food was always outstanding, but it was Joseph’s personal touch—his enthusiasm and passion for what he did—that made the experience so special. He would often take the time to talk with his customers, ask about their day, and make them feel like part of his extended family. His food was a bridge that brought people from all walks of life together, and it was in the laughter shared over a meal that many found joy and comfort.

In addition to his culinary talents, Joseph was deeply devoted to his family. He is lovingly remembered as a devoted partner to Cassie Jennings and a proud father of five children, including his two beloved daughters. Joseph’s life revolved around family, and he was always eager to provide for his loved ones and create memories with them. Family gatherings were a source of joy for Joseph, and he poured love into his role as a father, partner, and son. His commitment to his family was unshakeable, and his love for them was boundless. As a father, he was the epitome of dedication—always present, always supportive, and always willing to go above and beyond for his children. The pride he took in his family was evident to everyone who knew him.

Joseph’s love for his family extended to his community as well. He was always ready to lend a helping hand, whether it was through his business, offering advice to fellow entrepreneurs, or simply being there for a friend in need. His love for Lompoc was evident in everything he did, and he poured his heart into his work and his community. Joseph took great pride in knowing that his food brought joy to others, but more than that, he cherished the opportunity to be part of the lives of those he served. His presence in the community was a source of comfort, and his absence leaves a hole that will be difficult to fill.

The Lompoc community and beyond remember Joseph not just for his culinary talent but for the kindness he showed, the joy he spread, and the vibrant presence that made every interaction feel like a reunion with an old friend. His infectious energy filled every room, every conversation, and every meal. He was a constant reminder of the power of positivity and the importance of family, love, and community. Whether it was through the meals he cooked, the laughter he shared, or the kindness he extended, Joseph had an undeniable impact on everyone he met. He was a true light in the lives of many, and his passing has left the community with a deep sense of loss.

Though his journey ended far too soon, Joseph Isaac Medina’s spirit continues to live on through his children, his culinary legacy, and the lasting imprint he made on every life he touched. The memories of his joyful laughter, his infectious smile, and the love he gave to those around him will never fade. Joseph’s impact on Lompoc and beyond is immeasurable, and his legacy of love, laughter, and hard work will live on in the hearts of those who knew him.

As the community comes to terms with this devastating loss, they are united in their grief and in their gratitude for having had Joseph in their lives. His memory will be cherished, his love will endure, and his spirit will continue to inspire those who knew him. The loss of Joseph “Big Joe” Medina is a heartbreak felt deeply by all, but the love and joy he spread throughout his life will never be forgotten. Rest in peace, Big Joe. You will be dearly missed but always remembered with love and gratitude.
