Nicholas Joseph Daisernia, beloved father, grandfather, and veteran, passed peacefully on July 4, 2025, at the age of 84. A lifetime of service, dedication, and love for family and community defined his remarkable journey, and he will be deeply missed by all who knew him.

    What Happened

Nicholas Daisernia’s passing marks the end of a well-lived life that spanned decades of service to his country, his community, and his family. Born on January 4, 1941, in Catskill, New York, to the late Nicholas J. and Theresa “Tessie” (Petramale) Daisernia, Nicholas dedicated much of his life to serving others. He passed away peacefully in his home, leaving behind a legacy of love, strength, and integrity. Nicholas’s wishes were clear, and as such, there will be no services held.

    Who Was Nicholas Joseph Daisernia

Nicholas was a proud graduate of St. Patrick’s High School, where he set the foundation for a life committed to growth and service. He served honorably in the United States Army from 1961 to 1965, a period that shaped his strong sense of duty and discipline. After his military service, Nicholas earned his master’s in biology from SUNY New Paltz, a step that set him on his long career path.

He spent years working as a parole officer with the NYS Department of Corrections and Community Supervision, a job that saw him contribute to the safety and rehabilitation of countless individuals. Nicholas retired in 2002, moving to Nevada to enjoy his well-earned retirement. Every summer, he returned to his hometown of Catskill, visiting family and friends with a spirit that touched everyone he encountered.

Nicholas was predeceased by his brother, Frank Daisernia, but leaves behind a strong family legacy. He is survived by his loving son and daughter-in-law, Marc and Francesca Daisernia of Catskill, his grandson, Andrew Daisernia, and his wife, Louise of South Cairo.

    Public or Family Reaction

Nicholas’s family, friends, and the wider Catskill community are deeply saddened by his passing. Known for his quiet strength, generosity, and unwavering commitment to those he loved, Nicholas’s loss is felt far and wide. His son, Marc, and the entire family are heartbroken but grateful for the time they had with him and the memories he leaves behind.

In his retirement, Nicholas was a fixture in his community, attending local events and staying closely connected to his roots in Catskill. He was loved not only for his warmth but for his ability to listen, offer support, and offer wisdom when it was needed most. The love he had for his family and the legacy he leaves behind are priceless.

    Official Statement

The family has requested privacy during this difficult time, honoring Nicholas’s wishes for no formal services. However, they encourage those who wish to honor his memory to consider making memorial contributions in his name. Memorial donations can be made to the Greene County Department of Human Services Senior Nutrition Program or the Greene County Vet2Vet Children of Veteran’s Scholarship Fund, causes dear to Nicholas’s heart that reflected his lifelong commitment to helping others.

    Closing

Though Nicholas Joseph Daisernia’s physical presence is no longer with us, his spirit will continue to inspire all who knew him. A man of service, strength, and devotion, his memory will remain forever etched in the hearts of his family, friends, and the communities he served.
