HARVEY, Ill. — A violent night in the south suburban community of Harvey has left seven people injured, including a 4-year-old child, and one suspected gunman dead following a mass shooting at a house party on Saturday, August 2, 2025.

    What Happened

On the evening of August 2, 2025, a mass shooting occurred at a house party in the 14400 block of Des Plaines Street in Harvey, leaving seven people injured and one suspect dead. According to the City of Harvey, police responded to the scene shortly after 8:00 p.m. to reports of gunfire, where they found several people suffering from gunshot wounds. Preliminary reports suggest that two armed suspects arrived at the party and began shooting into the crowd.

In a dramatic turn, a licensed concealed carry holder (CCL-holder) who was attending the gathering returned fire, fatally wounding one of the suspects at the scene. The second suspect was also injured and later apprehended after being transported to a nearby hospital for treatment.

    Who Was Involved

Among the seven victims, a 4-year-old boy was injured but is expected to survive. Four other individuals were hospitalized with injuries not considered life-threatening, while the exact conditions of the remaining two victims have not been disclosed. The identities of the suspects involved in the shooting have not been released as of Sunday afternoon.

    Background or Timeline

Harvey Police arrived at the chaotic scene shortly after 8:00 p.m. on August 2, 2025. The situation quickly escalated as gunfire erupted at the house party, injuring several attendees. While the first suspect was fatally shot by the CCL-holder, the second suspect was injured in the exchange and has been taken into custody.

However, the violence did not end there. Hours after the house party shooting, a second shooting occurred at around 4:50 a.m. on Sunday, August 3, 2025, in the 200 block of Calumet Boulevard. Officers found a man inside a minivan with multiple gunshot wounds. The victim, identified as 24-year-old Charles Lipsey, was pronounced dead at the scene. Preliminary findings suggest the second shooting may have been retaliation linked to the earlier house party violence.

    Public or Social Media Reaction

Residents of Harvey have expressed their shock and trauma following the violent events. “This is something you would hear if you were at war,” said Willie Hill, 73, a nearby resident. “It was terrible. Loud. I mean, you could tell it was nothing to play with.” Another neighbor, Michael Parker, shared his concern, saying, “Bullets fly. They don’t have a name on them.”

Official Statement or What Happens Next

The Harvey Police Department, with assistance from multiple law enforcement agencies, is actively investigating both shootings. Authorities are working to piece together the events surrounding the violence. Officials have emphasized that the house party shooting appears to be an isolated incident, and there is no ongoing threat to the public.

Investigators are seeking additional information from witnesses and encouraging anyone with details to come forward. Authorities are also exploring the possibility of a retaliatory connection between the two shootings.
