The Strathfoyle community is saddened by the passing of Helen Cairns (nee Boyle), who left us peacefully on August 12, 2025, at Altnagelvin Hospital. Helen was a beloved mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and sister, whose warmth, kindness, and devotion left an enduring mark on all who knew her.
Family and Legacy
Helen was the loving mother of Kelley, Laureen, Cheryl, Aaron, and Gareth, and mother-in-law to Sean, Leeroy, Jim, Karla, and Zoe. She was a cherished grandmother and great-grandmother, whose family was the center of her world. Helen was also a dear sister to Gloria, JD, and the late Pat, Mary, and John, forming bonds that reflected her deep commitment to family.
Her life was marked by love, generosity, and faith. Those who knew Helen remember her for her nurturing spirit, her unwavering care for her family, and her dedication to her community.
Funeral Arrangements
Helen’s remains will repose at her home at 23 Clareen Drive, Strathfoyle, on Wednesday from 11:00 AM to 10:00 PM, allowing family, friends, and community members to pay their respects.
The funeral will proceed from her home on Thursday at 11:30 AM for 12:00 PM Requiem Mass at St. Oliver Plunkett’s Church, Strathfoyle. Interment will follow at St. Mary’s Cemetery, Ardmore.
Faith and Remembrance
Helen was a woman of strong faith, and in her memory, the community is invited to pray: “Queen of the Most Holy Rosary, pray for her.” Her devotion to family, community, and faith leaves a lasting legacy that will continue to inspire those who knew her.
Helen Cairns will be deeply missed, lovingly remembered, and forever cherished by her family and all whose lives she touched.
