    Remembering Manuel Arepentido: A Legacy of Service, Strength, and Family

    Manuel Arepentido, the finance officer and clerk of the UST Simbahayan Community Development Office, passed away on August 16 at the age of 60 after a courageous battle with cancer. For over four decades, Arepentido was a dedicated member of the University of Santo Tomas (UST), playing a key role in the evolution of the university’s community development efforts. His passing marks the end of a chapter for UST, but his legacy of service, kindness, and family devotion will live on in the hearts of all who knew him.

    Manuel Arepentido passed away after a brave fight with stage 4 sigmoid colon cancer, which had spread to his liver and lungs. Despite his illness, he remained dedicated to his family and work, continuing to serve UST until the end of his life. His passing has left a profound impact on the university community, with colleagues and students alike remembering him for his unwavering commitment, kindness, and leadership.

    Who Is Manuel Arepentido?

    Manuel Arepentido was a respected member of UST for over 40 years, having served under several offices, including the Office for Community Development, Office for Student Affairs and Community Service, and finally, the Simbahayan office. He earned his business administration degree from the UST College of Commerce in 1986, and throughout his career, he was known for his kindness to students and his willingness to lend a hand. Many considered him a second father, especially for his caring nature and his dedication to family values.

    Diagnosed with cancer in October 2024, Arepentido’s health challenges did not stop him from staying dedicated to his family and work. His resilience and quiet acceptance of his illness were admired by his colleagues. Asst. Prof. Froilan Alipao, Simbahayan director, and Assistant director Prof. Christian Rimando both praised his strength and warmth, remembering him for his life advice and joyful presence in the office.
