James peacefully left this life on August 27, 2025, at the age of 86, after a courageous battle with illness. His death leaves a void in the hearts of his family, friends, and the community he loved and served throughout his life.

    What Happened

James Roscoe Hulsey, born on March 22, 1939, in Lequire, Oklahoma, led a remarkable life marked by hard work, service, and deep connections with his community. After decades of dedication to various fields, James passed away peacefully, leaving behind a legacy of kindness and unwavering support to those around him.

    Who Was James Roscoe Hulsey?

James was a devoted father, grandfather, and community member who embodied warmth, compassion, and humility. He is remembered for his love of storytelling, his jovial spirit, and his ability to form deep bonds with everyone he met. His career spanned multiple professions, from vehicle repair and painting in Colorado to serving as a dedicated member of the McAlester Police Department. Later in life, he transitioned into entrepreneurship, running both the Country Store & Station in Lequire and Roscoe’s Body Shop in Stigler.

James was a constant fixture in his community, known for his kindness and generosity. His legacy lives on through the family he nurtured and the many people whose lives he touched.

    Background or Timeline

James began his career working with his uncle in Colorado, learning vehicle repair and painting as a teenager. He later worked for the Tulsa Linen Company before moving to McAlester, where he proudly served in the police department until his retirement in 1983. Afterward, he ventured into business ownership, where he became a beloved figure in Lequire and Stigler. He ran the Country Store & Station and then Roscoe’s Body Shop, dedicating himself to both his work and the people he encountered until his retirement in 2024.

James was preceded in death by his parents, his wife Judith Ann Decker, his infant son Steven Young Hulsey, and his grandson Jon Ross Staggs. His siblings also mourn his passing, but his children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and sister Ramona Eakle, along with numerous nieces and nephews, survive him.
