13-Year-Old Boy Arrested in Pierce County After Discovery of Weapons and Concerning Social Media Posts

Seattle – A 13-year-old boy has been arrested in Pierce County, Washington, after law enforcement discovered a significant stash of weapons in his home. Authorities became aware of the situation following concerning social media posts that suggested the boy intended to harm others.

    What Happened:

The boy was arrested early Saturday morning after a SWAT team executed a search warrant at his residence. Officers uncovered 23 firearms, along with ammunition, stored throughout the house. The boy has pleaded not guilty to five charges, including felonies related to unlawful possession of firearms and making threats. He was ordered to remain in detention.

Investigators found troubling evidence in the boy’s room, including tactical-style rifles and AR-style magazines. The evidence also included notes referencing infamous mass shootings, such as the 1999 Columbine High School tragedy. Social media posts tied to the boy raised additional alarm. These included images of firearms, as well as disturbing messages, such as one that stated, “when I turn 21 I am going to kill people,” and another ominous post reading, “it’s over! my time is almost here!”

    Reactions:

The discovery has raised serious concerns about gun safety and accountability, particularly in households with firearms. Investigators are now looking into the boy’s parents to determine their responsibility in storing these weapons, given Washington state law prohibits individuals under 18 from possessing firearms, except under specific circumstances.

During the court hearing, the boy’s mother suggested that the disturbing posts were a misguided attempt to gain attention from peers. At the time of his arrest, the boy was being homeschooled, having not attended the Franklin Pierce School District since 2021.

    What’s Next:

Authorities have expressed concerns that the boy had been preparing for a violent act, with one official remarking, “It’s clear it was a matter of time before a tragic incident occurred.” A pretrial conference for the boy is scheduled for September 17, and a detention review will take place on September 22 as the legal process continues.

    Closing Thoughts:

This arrest highlights the ongoing concerns surrounding youth, gun safety, and parental responsibility in preventing violent acts. As the legal process unfolds, this case serves as a sobering reminder of the importance of monitoring children’s social media activity and ensuring proper firearm storage in households. The community will continue to watch closely as further details emerge.
