It is with deep sorrow and heartfelt condolences that we acknowledge the passing of Donald Lothrop, a cherished member of the Danvers community and the proud owner and head coach of Yellow Jackets Gymnastics Club. Donald’s passing marks the loss of not only an extraordinary coach but a mentor, friend, and role model whose impact will be felt for generations.

For decades, Donald dedicated his life to shaping young athletes, guiding them with a blend of discipline, humor, and unwavering encouragement. He was more than a coach—he was a constant presence in the lives of the gymnasts he trained, always offering support both on and off the mat. His passion for gymnastics was matched only by his deep care for every student who walked through the doors of Yellow Jackets.

Donald’s legacy is evident in the countless lives he touched. Many former athletes credit him with instilling values of perseverance, self-belief, and resilience—lessons that extended far beyond the sport itself. He had a remarkable ability to recognize potential in others and nurture it with patience, guidance, and positivity.

Known for his infectious laugh, warm personality, and boundless energy, Donald built more than a successful gymnastics program—he built a community. His gym was a second home to many, a place where young athletes felt seen, supported, and empowered.

As the Danvers community grieves this tremendous loss, a Celebration of Life is being planned to honor Donald’s remarkable journey. Friends, family, athletes, and colleagues will gather to share memories, stories, and reflections that speak to the lasting imprint he has left on their hearts.

In his memory, a fundraising effort has been launched to support both the celebration and the establishment of a scholarship fund—a fitting tribute to a man who dedicated his life to uplifting others. Through this scholarship, Donald’s legacy of mentorship and opportunity will live on, continuing to inspire future generations of gymnasts.

Our thoughts are with the Lothrop family and the entire Yellow Jackets community during this time of loss. May we all carry forward the spirit, dedication, and kindness that Donald so generously shared throughout his life.

Rest in peace, Coach Lothrop. Your legacy lives on.
