With profound sorrow and broken hearts, we mourn the unimaginable loss of Doug Clifton and Katherine Velez Katz, a loving couple whose lives were tragically cut short in a motorcycle accident. Residing in Discovery Bay, California, Doug and Katherine were not only devoted partners to each other but also passionate supporters of the music and arts community, touching countless lives with their generosity, warmth, and unwavering spirit.

Doug, originally from San Francisco and a proud graduate of Skyline High School in Oakland, dedicated much of his professional life to public service with the Alameda Fire Department. A man of integrity and humility, Doug brought that same sense of dedication and compassion to his personal life and passions. His love for live music was matched only by his desire to share it with others—capturing stunning photographs and live-streaming performances for music lovers across the globe. Each show he attended was carefully documented with intention and heart.

Katherine, known to many as Kathy, was the embodiment of love and light. Her kindness and radiant spirit lit up every room she entered. A true force of nature, she worked tirelessly behind the scenes in the music community—networking, promoting, and supporting artists and venues across the country. Her heartfelt hugs, joyful laughter, and enthusiastic encouragement were gifts she gave freely and often.

Together, Doug and Kathy were a fixture in the live music scene—always arriving early to secure their favorite spot front and center, and staying late to connect, share stories, and express gratitude. Their love for each other was as visible as their love for the music and community they cherished. Their absence leaves a deep and irreplaceable void.

The JMF Family and the wider music world are devastated by their passing, but we are forever grateful for the joy and support Doug and Kathy brought into our lives. We will continue to honor their legacy at every show, in every note, and through every memory we hold dear.

Doug Clifton and Katherine Velez Katz
You will be deeply missed, lovingly remembered, and forever celebrated.

Rest in peace, Doug & Kathy. Until we meet again, somewhere down the road.
