One year ago, a post on social media set in motion the identification of a woman long known as the Hwy 70 Jane Doe. Today, Ashley Fuller’s story serves as a powerful reminder of how collective effort and care can make a life-changing difference.

    What Happened

Ashley Fuller, from Columbia, Tennessee, was last in contact with her family in August 2020. Though she occasionally became estranged, her mother actively sought to locate her. Unknown to them, Ashley’s body had been discovered on November 26, 2020, by homeless individuals in an abandoned house along Hwy 70 in Nashville. Her remains were buried in a pauper’s grave, and for nearly three years, her identity remained unknown.

In September 2023, the Tennessee Bureau of Investigation released an artist’s rendering of her face and her distinctive wrist tattoo. On September 19, 2024, a final social media attempt to identify her was posted. Four days later, Mary Wilson, Ashley’s mother, recognized her daughter’s tattoo and confirmed her identity. Ashley was exhumed and brought home, giving her family long-awaited closure.
