BARSTOW, CA — The search for 2-year-old Xavier Padilla ended in heartbreak Friday evening when authorities confirmed that the little boy had been found deceased following a massive search effort.

    What Happened

The tragedy began when floodwaters in Barstow swept away the vehicle Xavier was traveling in with his father. The pair became separated in the rushing water. While Xavier’s father was rescued, despite extensive rescue operations, the toddler did not survive.

    The Search

Multiple agencies joined forces in an intensive search that spanned more than 20 hours, combing the area by ground, water, and air in hopes of finding Xavier alive. Sadly, those hopes came to a devastating end when officials confirmed his passing.

    Community in Mourning

News of Xavier’s death has sent shockwaves through the Barstow community and beyond. Loved ones, neighbors, and strangers alike are mourning the loss of a child whose life was taken far too soon.

Authorities and family members are asking the public to keep Xavier’s loved ones in their prayers during this unimaginable time of grief.

Please lift this family in your thoughts and prayers as they navigate this heartbreaking loss.
