Greensboro, North Carolina — January 14, 2024
On the night of January 13, 2024, 25-year-old Marissa Carmichael left her home with plans to enjoy a night out, but hours later, she vanished without a trace.
Marissa, a mother of five, had told her sister she was headed to a club with a friend. A cousin drove Marissa and her companion to One17 SofaBar & Lounge in Greensboro, North Carolina, around 11 p.m. that evening. The cousin dropped them off, leaving them to enjoy their night, unaware it would be their last time seeing Marissa.
What Happened:
At around 2 a.m., Marissa left the club with a man she had just met. They reportedly went to an Airbnb just a short distance away. However, by 3:40 a.m., a frantic 911 call would be the last known contact from Marissa. She told the dispatcher that she didn’t know where she was, that her belongings had been thrown out of a car, and that the man she was with had taken off with her phone. Marissa’s voice was described as shaken and panicked.
When police arrived at the location, 801 E. Market Street, at 4:21 a.m., Marissa was nowhere to be found. Surveillance footage from a nearby camera showed her getting into another vehicle and leaving the gas station. The driver of that vehicle was identified and interviewed by police, but he is only considered a witness.
