As a lifelong Democrat, I can no longer remain silent while Andrew Cuomo tries to rewrite history and rebrand himself as the savior of New York. His record of betrayal, abuse of power, and disastrous policies have left our state in crisis. It’s time to face the truth: Cuomo is not the answer.
Cuomo’s Legacy of Crisis and Failure
Andrew Cuomo resigned from office under the weight of multiple accusations of sexual harassment, including one confirmed by the New York Attorney General. That alone should disqualify him from ever holding public office again. But Cuomo’s failure doesn’t end there. His policy decisions and leadership during his tenure have exacerbated the very problems they were meant to solve.
He implemented disastrous reforms such as stripping judges’ discretion through bail changes, crippling prosecutions with faulty discovery rules, and instituting policies like Raise the Age and HALT, which worsened public safety and left law-abiding citizens vulnerable. Crime rose, repeat offenders cycled through the system, and the public lost trust in our justice system. These were Cuomo’s choices—and New Yorkers paid the price.
During the pandemic, his arrogance and disregard for accountability were painfully evident. He forced nursing homes to accept COVID-positive patients, leading to the deaths of thousands of seniors, including my own mother. And his administration tried to cover up the true death toll with manipulated data. While families grieved, Cuomo used taxpayer money to boost his personal brand with a multimillion-dollar book deal.
A Failed Economic Record
Cuomo’s economic policies also failed New Yorkers. He imposed congestion pricing, which burdened working families who need cars for jobs outside the subway map. His rushed marijuana legalization opened the door to illegal shops targeting vulnerable communities, and his closure of prisons lacked a clear plan for safety and employment. His economic development initiatives became synonymous with corruption, bid-rigging, and favoritism. It’s clear that Cuomo prioritized his own ambitions over the people of New York.
Cuomo’s scandals and legal battles have already cost the public over $65 million—money that should have been spent on the people of New York, not on his image rehabilitation. He left office in disgrace and now wants us to forget all of that and give him another shot at power.
The Case for Curtis Sliwa
As a Democrat, I’m asking fellow Democrats, independents, and Republicans to put competence, integrity, and results above political labels. Curtis Sliwa, a man with a long record of service to New Yorkers, is the candidate who can bring real change.
Sliwa founded the Guardian Angels, a global public safety organization, and has spent decades on the streets fighting for safer communities. He has pledged to reverse the damage done by Cuomo’s failed policies. Sliwa will restore common-sense bail and parole reforms that respect victims and protect the public. He will take action against illegal smoke shops that have proliferated under Cuomo’s rushed marijuana legalization. And he will fight to stop congestion pricing from hurting working families.
Under Sliwa’s leadership, schools will stay open, and students will never again be used as pawns in political theater. He will publish transparent dashboards so every New Yorker can track progress in real-time. Curtis has the toughness, integrity, and experience to tackle the challenges our city faces and lead with honesty.
A Call to Action
This election is not about party labels—it’s about finding the candidate who can restore trust, safety, and integrity to New York. Curtis Sliwa is the candidate who has earned that trust. He has stood with New Yorkers through thick and thin, and he has the platform to deliver the results we need.
Choose a candidate who will stand up to insiders, deliver on promises, and bring real change to New York. Choose Curtis Sliwa.
Closing Line:
Let’s not allow the failures of the past to define our future. Vote for the candidate who will truly put New Yorkers first.
