Specialist officers from Leicester’s police force have launched a renewed search into the disappearance of Malgorzata Wnuczek, a Polish national, who vanished nearly 20 years ago. Wnuczek was last seen on May 31, 2006, in Leicester after catching a bus to the city center from her workplace.
What Happened
Malgorzata Wnuczek, affectionately called “Gosia” by her family, disappeared in Leicester nearly two decades ago. She was last seen leaving her job at Peter Jackson Logistics on Sunningdale Road, Leicester, on May 31, 2006. Her last known communication with her family was a text message on May 29, 2006.
Despite extensive efforts to locate her, including appeals from her loved ones and police, her whereabouts have remained unknown. In 2016, a public appeal for information was made, but it was only in 2023 that new developments arose. Following information from Polish authorities, the East Midlands Special Operations Unit (EMSOU) conducted a search of the River Soar, but no significant evidence was found.
Renewed Search Efforts
Now, in September 2025, officers have renewed their investigation into Malgorzata’s disappearance. The Tactical Support Team (TST), with support from forensic specialists, has begun digging on scrubland off the Great Central Way near Watkin Road. The area will be searched over the coming weeks in hopes of uncovering new evidence or clues that might shed light on what happened to Malgorzata.
During previous investigations, a 39-year-old man was arrested in 2023 in the Greater Manchester area on suspicion of assisting an offender and perverting the course of justice, but he was later released without charge. Despite these efforts, Malgorzata’s disappearance remains a mystery.
Ongoing Investigation
Authorities are asking anyone with information to come forward and assist in the search. As the investigation progresses, hopes are high that this renewed search will lead to new clues or even answers regarding her fate.
