    ALEXANDRIA, TN – October 4, 2025 – Authorities report that 48-year-old Gary Ray Ashford of Goodner Lane, Alexandria, Tennessee, was fatally shot during an officer-involved incident on Saturday evening. The DeKalb County Sheriff’s Office (DCSO) confirmed that the event occurred while deputies were serving a court-ordered warrant.

    According to the DCSO, deputies attempted to serve a warrant to Gary Ray Ashford when he allegedly brandished a weapon and approached the officers. In response, the deputies discharged their firearms, and Ashford was pronounced dead at the scene. The incident prompted an immediate law enforcement response, including backup from the Smithville Police Department.
