On what would have been his 54th birthday, we honor and remember Edward “Teddy” Francis Maloney III, a beloved husband, father, and friend whose life was tragically cut short on September 11, 2001, in the attacks on the World Trade Center. Teddy’s memory lives on through his family, friends, and the legacy he left behind.

    Who Was Teddy Maloney?

Edward “Teddy” Francis Maloney III was born on October 11, 1968, in Berlin, Germany, to Sally and Edward Maloney. He immigrated to the United States with his parents and siblings, settling in Andover, CT. Later, Teddy lived in Darien, CT, where he built his adult life. Known for his warmth, loyalty, and modesty, Teddy was a devoted husband to Brinley Long Maloney and a loving father to their daughter Mason, who was just 14 months old when he passed, with another daughter, Teddy Bray, on the way.

Teddy was an avid sports fan, particularly of hockey and lacrosse, and was active in coaching ice hockey for Greenwich Academy and the Greenwich Skating Club. He was also a passionate member of the Apawamis Club, enjoying his free time playing golf. Teddy’s legacy is that of a dedicated, loving family man and an individual who cherished those around him.

    Teddy’s Career and Tragic Passing

Teddy worked as an account manager for Cantor Fitzgerald’s subsidiary, TradeSpark, on the 104th floor of the North Tower of the World Trade Center. He was planning to transfer to Cantor’s Darien, CT, office in February 2002 to be closer to his family.

On the morning of September 11, 2001, Teddy made his routine daily phone call to his wife, Brinley, at 8:40 a.m. Just six minutes later, at 8:46 a.m., Flight 11 struck the North Tower, and Teddy’s floor, along with all of Cantor Fitzgerald’s offices above the impact zone, was left impassable. Tragically, none of the firm’s attending employees survived the attack, including Teddy.

Though his life was cut short in such a senseless way, Teddy’s love, spirit, and accomplishments continue to be cherished by those who knew him.

    Legacy and Remembering Teddy

Teddy’s life was marked by love, dedication, and a profound impact on those around him. His family remembers him as a devoted father who adored his daughter Mason and eagerly anticipated the birth of his second daughter, Teddy Bray. Friends and family remember his kindness, warmth, and his joy in sharing moments with those he loved.

Though his passing was a great loss, Teddy’s memory lives on in the hearts of his family, his community, and all who knew him. Today, on his heavenly birthday, we honor his legacy and commit to keeping his memory alive, ensuring that his love and his spirit will never be forgotten.

    Closing Line

Happy heavenly birthday, Teddy. We will never forget you. Your memory, love, and legacy will live on forever.
