WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. — A tragic shooting in Winston-Salem on Thursday night has left one woman dead and another person hospitalized, with authorities launching an investigation into the homicide.
The Winston-Salem Police Department responded to the scene around 8:50 p.m. on Thursday, October 16, 2025, after receiving reports of a shooting in the 700 block of Ferrell Court.

At the scene, police found 44-year-old Meranda Lynn White suffering from gunshot wounds. Emergency Medical Services (EMS) quickly transported White to the hospital, where she was later pronounced dead from her injuries.
In addition to White, another individual was found at the scene suffering from non-life-threatening gunshot wounds. The identity of this second person has not been released by authorities, as investigators continue to work on determining the circumstances surrounding the shooting.
