October 2025 – Northern Ontario, Canada – The Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) have discovered human remains in a remote area of Northern Ontario while assisting with an ongoing Windsor homicide investigation. The remains were found off a dirt road near the Trans-Canada Highway, just south of Black River-Matheson Township, approximately one hour east of Timmins.

What Happened: Discovery During Search Efforts

On Friday, the OPP announced that the remains were found while conducting an evidence search in support of the Windsor Police Service (WPS). Officers were specifically focused on a wooded area north of Kirkland Lake, near Bourkes Road, when the remains were uncovered.

“We were conducting an evidence search related to a homicide case in Windsor,” said Staff Sgt. Joe Faddoul of the Windsor Police Service during a press conference. The discovery has prompted further investigation, with the remains being turned over to the appropriate authorities for examination.

The Windsor Police Service has confirmed that the discovery of the body is related to the ongoing homicide investigation but has refrained from providing additional details. The case remains under investigation, with police continuing to coordinate their efforts between the OPP and WPS.

Background of the Homicide Case: The Death of David Pavao

The remains are believed to be connected to the death of 37-year-old David Pavao, a Windsor resident who was last seen alive in August 2025. Windsor Police have charged two individuals in connection with Pavao’s death, while a third suspect remains at large.

Pavao’s disappearance and subsequent death have been a source of concern for the community, with authorities working tirelessly to piece together the events surrounding his tragic passing. While the remains found in Northern Ontario have not yet been officially identified, the timing and location of the discovery suggest a connection to the Windsor homicide case.

    Ongoing Investigation and Next Steps

Both OPP and Windsor Police Service continue to collaborate on the investigation, following leads and collecting evidence related to Pavao’s death. Police have assured the public that further updates will be provided once the remains have been officially identified, and the next of kin have been notified.

The investigation into the death of David Pavao is ongoing, with authorities working to locate the third suspect involved in the case. Law enforcement officials are urging anyone with information related to the case to come forward and assist with the investigation.

What You Can Do: Help Authorities Locate the Third Suspect

If you have any information related to this case, you are urged to contact the Windsor Police Service or the Ontario Provincial Police immediately. Law enforcement is also seeking assistance from the public in locating the third suspect still at large.

In addition to reporting tips or sightings directly to law enforcement, the public is encouraged to support organizations working with victims’ families and communities affected by violent crime.
