Tulsa, OK – March 1, 2021 – The disappearance of Iva Joetta Koopman, known affectionately as “Jojo,” “Jo,” or “Sugar,” remains one of Tulsa’s most troubling unsolved cases. The 37-year-old woman vanished just three days before her 38th birthday, under disturbing circumstances that included a house fire and a history of alleged domestic abuse. Nearly four years later, her family continues to search for answers.

    What Happened

On March 1, 2021, Iva Joetta Koopman disappeared near 46th Street North and Main Street in Tulsa, Oklahoma. Her disappearance coincided with a mysterious fire that destroyed her home, believed to have been set on or shortly after the day she vanished.

Tulsa Police immediately classified Iva as missing and endangered, citing significant concerns for her safety. Investigators said her disappearance and the timing of the house fire raised red flags suggesting possible foul play.

Family members told police that Iva had been in an abusive relationship with her boyfriend, whom they described as dangerous and controlling. According to relatives, Iva had previously been stabbed by her boyfriend, though no criminal charges were ever filed in that incident.

Her loved ones believe that same man may have been responsible for setting her home ablaze, but to date, no one has been charged in connection with either the fire or her disappearance.

Who Was Iva Joetta “Jojo” Koopman?

Iva Joetta Koopman, or “Jojo” as she was lovingly called, was known for her warm personality, sharp humor, and nurturing nature. Family members say she had a big heart and loved to make people laugh.

At the time she went missing, Iva was 5’4″–5’5″ tall, weighed around 123 pounds, and had long strawberry-blonde hair, often tied in a bun. She had blue eyes and several distinctive features, including:

    • A half-moon-shaped scar on her upper right shoulder blade
    • A butterfly tattoo on her lower back
    • A flower tattoo on her left ankle
    • Multiple piercings — ears, tongue, belly button, and pelvic area

Iva typically wore small-size clothing, flip-flops, and size 7 shoes. She often layered necklaces but did not wear rings or watches.

Her family describes her as strong-willed and independent, but also vulnerable due to her relationship, which they say had grown increasingly dangerous before she vanished.

    The Investigation

The Tulsa Police Department (TPD) opened a missing person investigation immediately, classifying Iva’s case as endangered. Her case number, 2021-014228, remains active with local detectives and federal databases, including NamUs, where she is listed under #MP78617.

Police have not confirmed whether the fire at her home is directly connected to her disappearance, but investigators continue to treat both events as part of a larger, unresolved case.

Despite ongoing efforts, including forensic analysis and interviews, no arrests have been made, and Iva’s whereabouts remain unknown. Detectives continue to urge anyone with information — even seemingly minor details — to come forward.

    Family’s Plea and Public Response

Iva’s disappearance has devastated her loved ones, who continue to hold vigils, share her story on social media, and push for justice. They describe her case as one that “should never have gone cold.”

“We just want answers,” one family member said. “If someone knows what happened to Jojo, please do the right thing and speak up.”

The Tulsa community has echoed their frustration and sadness, expressing outrage over the domestic violence allegations and lack of accountability. Advocates have since used Iva’s case to raise awareness about intimate partner violence and the need for stronger victim protection laws in Oklahoma.

Online groups dedicated to missing persons frequently share Iva’s story under hashtags like #FindIvaKoopman, #JusticeForJojo, and #MissingInTulsa, ensuring her name remains visible even years later.

    What Happens Next

As of 2025, Iva Joetta Koopman remains missing, and investigators continue to pursue leads. The Tulsa Police Department and Tulsa Crime Stoppers are actively seeking tips from the public.

Anyone with information about Iva’s disappearance is urged to contact Tulsa Crime Stoppers at 918-596-COPS. Tips can also be submitted anonymously online.

Detectives emphasize that even a small detail could break the case open — whether it’s a memory of the night of the fire, sightings near 46th Street North and Main Street, or information about individuals involved in Iva’s life at that time.

Iva Joetta “Jojo” Koopman was last seen alive on March 1, 2021. She deserves to be found, and her family deserves answers.

This story may be updated with more information as it becomes available.
