Calcasieu Parish, LA – October 26, 2025 – The Calcasieu Parish Sheriff’s Office (CPSO) is investigating two fatal crashes that occurred on Saturday, October 25, in separate locations within DeQuincy and Sulphur, Louisiana. Both incidents claimed the lives of two men, and authorities are working to determine the causes and contributing factors behind the crashes.
What Happened
In the early morning hours of October 25, CPSO deputies responded to a single-vehicle crash on Big Woods Starks Road near Creek Road in DeQuincy. Upon arriving at the scene, investigators found that a pickup truck had veered off the roadway while traveling southbound. The driver, Louis Pool, 48, of DeQuincy, reportedly attempted to correct the vehicle’s path but overcorrected, causing the truck to roll over and exit the roadway on the opposite side.
Louis Pool, who was not wearing a seatbelt, was partially ejected from the vehicle and tragically pronounced dead at the scene by emergency responders. The investigation into the cause of the crash is still ongoing, with speed, driver impairment, and other contributing factors being examined.
Later that evening, just before 11:00 p.m., CPSO deputies were dispatched to a second crash, this time involving an ATV (side-by-side) on W. Dave Dugas Road near Choupique Road in Sulphur. Preliminary reports indicate that the ATV was traveling on the roadway when the driver attempted a turn. For reasons still under investigation, the ATV rolled over, ejecting both the driver and the passenger.
The driver of the ATV, Randall Ravia, 37, of Sulphur, was transported to a nearby hospital, where he was later pronounced dead. The passenger sustained serious injuries and was initially treated at a local hospital before being transferred to a different medical facility, where their condition remains critical but stable.
Investigations and Ongoing Efforts
Both crashes remain under investigation by the Calcasieu Parish Sheriff’s Office. In the case of the pickup truck accident, authorities are examining factors such as speed and driver impairment as potential causes. Toxicology tests will be conducted on Louis Pool to determine if impairment played a role in the crash.
In the ATV crash, investigators are looking into possible speed and mechanical issues that may have contributed to the rollover. Toxicology testing will also be conducted on Randall Ravia to determine whether impairment was a factor.
Both investigations are ongoing, and authorities are urging anyone with information about the incidents to come forward.
Authorities’ Condolences and Safety Reminders
CPSO officials have expressed their deepest condolences to the families affected by these tragic events. The sheriff’s office has issued a reminder to the public, urging drivers and ATV operators to exercise caution at all times, especially on rural roads.
They also emphasized the importance of wearing seatbelts and safety restraints while operating vehicles or ATVs, as well as avoiding driving or riding under the influence.
“These tragedies remind us of the importance of safe driving and being vigilant behind the wheel or on an ATV,” said a CPSO spokesperson. “We urge all residents to prioritize safety and take precautions to prevent such devastating accidents.”
Next Steps
Authorities continue to gather evidence and interview witnesses as part of the investigations into both fatal crashes. Further details will be released once available.
