Brian DiBiasi, a former Hamilton Township police officer, was found dead on Monday, October 28, 2025, in Washington Crossing State Park, Mercer County, New Jersey. Authorities have confirmed that DiBiasi’s death was a suicide from a self-inflicted gunshot wound. His passing comes just months after he was charged with serious criminal offenses involving the possession and distribution of child sexual abuse material (CSAM).

    What Happened

The discovery of DiBiasi’s body took place in the afternoon when park rangers found him near one of the wooded trails in the New Jersey section of Washington Crossing State Park. Emergency responders were alerted after a passerby identified a vehicle matching the description of DiBiasi’s car. Upon investigation, the Mercer County Medical Examiner’s Office confirmed the cause of death as a single gunshot wound, ruling out foul play.

At the time of his death, DiBiasi was facing multiple felony charges related to child sexual abuse material. His passing effectively ends the criminal proceedings against him, though the case against his wife, Elizabeth DiBiasi, remains ongoing.

Who Was Brian DiBiasi / Background of the Case

Brian DiBiasi, 40, was a former patrol officer with the Hamilton Township Police Department. He was arrested in January 2025 along with his wife, Elizabeth, after a disturbing investigation revealed they had allegedly engaged in sexual acts in the presence of their children and had produced and distributed explicit materials, which were later classified as CSAM. The charges against him included possession, production, and distribution of child sexual abuse material, as well as child endangerment.

Following his arrest, DiBiasi was terminated from the police force, where he had served for several years. The charges against him shocked the Hamilton community and his former colleagues, who had once worked alongside him. The case had garnered significant attention due to the nature of the crimes and the involvement of a law enforcement officer.

    Investigation and Legal Matters

The Mercer County Prosecutor’s Office had described the case as “deeply disturbing,” and authorities had been preparing to move forward with additional evidence in the case. DiBiasi and his wife were scheduled to appear in court later in the fall. With DiBiasi’s death, the criminal case against him will no longer proceed, though the prosecution continues to pursue charges against Elizabeth DiBiasi.

While authorities have not made further comments on how his death might impact the ongoing case, mental health advocates have used the situation to highlight the pressures that can accompany public scrutiny, legal challenges, and reputational collapse. Many have emphasized the importance of providing mental health support, even for individuals accused of serious crimes.

    Community Reactions

The news of DiBiasi’s death has sparked a range of emotions in the community. Many have condemned his alleged actions, while others have expressed sorrow over the tragic way in which his life ended. Mental health professionals have urged attention to the psychological toll of such intense public and legal scrutiny, reminding the public of the need for compassion and support for those affected by similar challenges.

The Hamilton Police Department has not issued a formal statement regarding DiBiasi’s death, but internal sources have confirmed that he had been fully separated from the force since early 2025. Law enforcement and community officials have declined further comment, citing the ongoing legal process involving his co-defendant.

    Closing Line

A private service for Brian DiBiasi is expected to be held by his family. This story may be updated with more information as it becomes available.
