Kansas City, Missouri, is on high alert after 19-year-old T’Montez Hurt vanished on February 1, 2024. His family, especially his grandmother, Tecona Donald-Sullivan, is urgently seeking answers, desperate for T’Montez to come home safe.
What Happened:
T’Montez Hurt, originally from St. Louis, had been living and working in Grain Valley, Missouri, when he went missing. At the time of his disappearance, he had recently taken a semester off from Western Missouri University to save money for his return. On the early morning of February 1, 2024, T’Montez called his grandmother at around 3 a.m., telling her he was at an apartment in Kansas City and something wasn’t right.
“He didn’t seem like himself,” Tecona recalled. “He said, ‘Granny, just pray for me.’” Concerned, she immediately called 911, and T’Montez was transported to a hospital. He told medical staff he thought he had been drugged, but tests came back negative. Despite his grandmother’s request for him to stay at the hospital until she could arrive, T’Montez was discharged and sent off in a zTrip cab.
The Last Known Movements:
- 11:40 a.m.: T’Montez was seen near 12th & Troost Avenue in Kansas City.
- 1:30 p.m.: He was seen walking near 77th & Troost.
- Surveillance footage showed him arriving at the Greyhound Bus Station, which was closed. He tried to open the doors and re-enter the zTrip car, but the driver didn’t unlock the door.
- T’Montez’s phone was left inside the vehicle and was later recovered by his grandmother. After this, there have been no confirmed sightings of him.
Family’s Search:
T’Montez’s family has searched tirelessly, combing through streets, homeless camps, and bus routes across Kansas City. His grandmother, Tecona, expressed her deep frustration with the lack of attention the case has received. “Riley Strain got a whole billboard. Why doesn’t T’Montez’s face have one?” she said, referring to another missing person case that has garnered more visibility.
Tecona’s search efforts have been relentless. “I went to homeless camps, I’ve been in trash cans. I went and caught the buses and rode over in Kansas looking for my grandson,” she said, never giving up hope.
