Augusta, GA – November 5, 2025 – The disappearance of Byron Speller, a 24-year-old father of two, remains a mystery as his family continues to search for answers seven years after he was last seen on June 29, 2018. Despite years of searching and ongoing investigations, the whereabouts of Speller, who vanished without a trace, are still unknown.
What Happened
On the day of his disappearance, Byron Speller drove his mother’s burgundy Chevrolet Tahoe to the old Kroger on Wrightsboro Road in Augusta, Georgia. After locking his keys inside the car, he called his younger brother Corey Morgan for help. Corey arrived to assist, and a locksmith was able to unlock the vehicle. That was the last time Corey saw his brother.
Afterwards, Byron was supposed to pick up his mother for work the following day, but he failed to show up, prompting concern from his family. “It’s really, really hard not having my brother here,” said Courtney Morgan, Byron’s older sister. When Byron failed to pick up his mother, his family knew something was wrong. Courtney added, “My brother called me, have you heard from him, and I’m like no.”
Car Found Miles Away
The mystery deepened when Byron’s Chevrolet Tahoe was found miles away from where he was last seen. According to a Richmond County Sheriff’s Office incident report, the vehicle was discovered outside a gas station on Lumpkin Road, approximately 20 minutes from the original location. The gas station owner contacted law enforcement after the car had been sitting there for a full day.
Despite the discovery of his vehicle, Byron was nowhere to be found. The last trace of Byron’s whereabouts came from a ping of his cell phone, which was tracked to 6th Avenue. Byron had been raising his two children after their mother passed away a year before his disappearance. “The milestones these kids have accomplished. He wasn’t even here to see any of that,” Courtney Morgan said.
Search Efforts and Continuing Investigation
In the weeks following Byron’s disappearance, his family and friends organized search parties to look for him. Community members joined efforts to search areas near where the car was found, as well as locations where his phone had last been tracked. Despite extensive search efforts, Byron has not been located.
Corey Morgan, determined to find his brother, stated, “I’m not going to stop until my brother is found,” during a 2018 interview. However, seven years later, the search continues with no answers. “Never in a million years did I think I’d be sitting here saying seven years later,” Courtney Morgan shared.
Family’s Plea for Answers
Although Courtney Morgan no longer holds hope that Byron will be found alive, she continues to plead for someone to provide answers. “I just want to bring him home. So, his kids can possibly have a graveside to go to,” she said. The family remains desperate for any information that could lead to closure and help bring Byron back home.
The Richmond County Sheriff’s Office has not responded to requests for comment on the case, and the investigation remains open. Authorities continue to seek any information that might lead to finding Byron.
