Trump Warns of New York Exodus to Florida After Zohran Mamdani’s Victory

Miami, FL – November 5, 2025 – President Donald Trump has warned that New York City residents will soon flee to Florida following the election of Zohran Mamdani as the new mayor of New York City. Speaking to a crowd at the America Business Forum in Miami, Trump took aim at Mamdani, a Democratic Socialist, and predicted that many New Yorkers will seek refuge in Florida due to what he described as the city’s shift toward a “communist regime.”

    What Happened

Trump’s comments come after Mamdani’s victory in Tuesday’s mayoral race in New York City, where he defeated former Governor Andrew Cuomo. During his speech, Trump criticized the Democratic Party for what he sees as its “extreme” shift to the left. He warned that Miami would soon become a haven for people fleeing New York City and other liberal areas in the U.S.

“Now the Democrats are so extreme that Miami will soon be the refuge for those fleeing communism in New York City. They flee,” Trump said, adding, “Where do you live? New York City, but I’m trying to leave because I don’t want to live in a communist regime.”

Trump’s remarks were part of his broader criticism of what he perceives as the rise of socialism within the Democratic Party, especially in cities like New York, where Mamdani’s campaign was built on policies advocating for democratic socialism.

    Trump’s Personal Connection to Florida

Trump, who left New York City for Palm Beach, Florida in 2019, has long criticized the leadership of the city’s former mayor Bill de Blasio. Reflecting on his departure, Trump noted, “When I left New York for the White House, it was good except we had the telltale signs of trouble because we had a guy named De Blasio. He goes down as probably the worst mayor in history.”

Trump’s decision to move to Florida was framed as an escape from what he described as the city’s “poor treatment” under Democratic leadership, a sentiment that has been echoed by other Republicans, particularly those in Florida who have successfully appealed to immigrants from countries like Venezuela and Cuba. These groups have expressed concern over what they perceive as growing socialist policies in the U.S.

A Growing Battle Between Trump and Mamdani

Trump’s remarks have added fuel to the escalating war of words between him and the newly elected mayor of New York City. Mamdani, who identifies as a Democratic Socialist, responded to Trump’s comments during his victory speech in Brooklyn on Tuesday evening.

“So Donald Trump, since I know you’re watching, I have four words for you: turn the volume up,” Mamdani said, a challenge to Trump’s critique of his policies and leadership style.

In response to Mamdani’s remarks, Trump posted “…AND SO IT BEGINS!” on his social media platform TruthSocial, further fueling the tension between the two political figures.

    Trump’s Concerns Over Socialism

Trump’s comments reflect his ongoing narrative that the Democratic Party is veering dangerously toward socialism and that the U.S. could soon mirror countries like Cuba and Venezuela. “As I’ve warned for many years, our opponents are hell-bent on turning America into a communist Cuba or a socialist Venezuela, and you see what happened to those places,” Trump said, referring to his broader concerns about the left-wing policies championed by Mamdani and others within the Democratic Party.

    Closing

The rhetoric between Trump and Mamdani is part of a larger, intensifying political clash over the direction of the U.S., with debates about socialism, communism, and the future of the country’s leadership playing a central role. As Mamdani prepares to take office as New York City’s mayor, the political divide between him and Trump continues to grow, setting the stage for what could be an ongoing battle over ideological control of the country.
