Ruso, ND | November 8, 2025-The community of Ruso, North Dakota, is mourning the loss of 63-year-old Ward Knutson, who tragically passed away in a single-vehicle rollover accident on November 8, 2025. The incident occurred on N.D. Highway 53 in the Butte region, where slippery road conditions played a significant role in the crash.

    What Happened

At approximately Saturday night into early Sunday morning, Ward Knutson was driving his 1999 Ford F-250 when he reportedly lost control of the vehicle. The truck swerved into the south ditch and overturned. Emergency responders arrived on the scene and discovered Ward deceased, as he had been ejected from the vehicle. Authorities later confirmed that Ward was not wearing a seatbelt at the time of the crash, which likely contributed to the severity of the accident.

The North Dakota Highway Patrol is continuing its investigation into the circumstances of the crash, and while road conditions are believed to have been a factor, the exact cause of the accident is still under review.

    Who Was Ward Knutson?

Ward Knutson was a beloved figure in his hometown of Ruso and the surrounding areas. Known for his friendly demeanor, humility, and commitment to his community, Ward’s presence touched many lives. His influence extended beyond his immediate family, as he was a key member of the local community, always ready to lend a helping hand to those in need.

A dedicated agricultural worker, Ward spent much of his life working on his family’s farm. His expertise, experience, and hard work earned him the respect of his peers in the farming community. Whether managing crops, tending to animals, or navigating the daily challenges of rural living, Ward approached every task with integrity and resolve.

A Legacy of Service and Family

Ward’s love for nature and the simple joys of rural life defined much of who he was. He appreciated the peaceful beauty of North Dakota’s landscape, finding solace in the routines of farm life. But above all, Ward was a deeply devoted husband, father, and friend. He prioritized his family in every aspect of his life, and his loved ones recall him as a man who held honesty, diligence, and kindness in the highest regard.

Ward’s passing has left a significant void in the lives of his family, friends, and community. His absence is deeply felt, as his impact extended far beyond his work in agriculture—he was a source of comfort and joy for those around him.

    Ongoing Investigation and Community Reflections

The North Dakota Highway Patrol continues to investigate the accident, focusing on the role of road conditions and the possibility of winter weather-related factors. As the inquiry continues, Ward’s family and friends are reflecting on the legacy he leaves behind.

Those who knew him remember Ward for his steadfast dedication to others, his warm character, and his ability to bring comfort and happiness to everyone he met. His spirit will live on through the many lives he influenced, the community he helped uplift, and the love he shared so freely.

    A Reminder for Safe Driving

Ward Knutson’s passing serves as a poignant reminder of the dangers of winter driving and the importance of taking extra precautions during inclement weather. However, it also offers the Ruso community a chance to unite in sorrow, reflection, and support, as they honor the memory of a man whose life was defined by service, commitment, and love.

Ward will be deeply missed, but his legacy will continue to inspire all who had the privilege of knowing him.
