The Hornsby community in northwest Sydney is reeling after a 33-year-old pregnant woman and her unborn child were killed in a tragic accident on George Street on Friday evening, 14 November 2025. Authorities have charged 19-year-old Aaron Papazoglu, the driver of a BMW involved in the crash, with multiple serious offences.

    What Happened

Emergency services were called shortly after 8 p.m. on Friday following reports of a pedestrian being struck near the entrance of a parking lot on George Street. NSW Police confirm the incident involved a BMW and a Kia Carnival.

According to investigators, the BMW allegedly collided with the rear of the Kia, pushing it forward and fatally striking the woman as she walked alongside her husband and their three-year-old child. Paramedics from NSW Ambulance rushed the eight-month-pregnant woman to Westmead Hospital, but despite intensive efforts, both she and her unborn child passed away.

The drivers of both vehicles were unharmed and underwent mandatory testing. No other passengers were involved. The Ku-Ring-Gai Police Area Command established a crime scene, with the Crash Investigation Unit conducting a thorough forensic examination overnight.

    Who Was the Victim

The 33-year-old woman, who was eight months pregnant, leaves behind her husband and young son. Family and friends describe her as a devoted mother, loving partner, and cherished member of the Hornsby community. Witnessing the crash, her husband and child were physically unharmed but received immediate support for shock and trauma.

Her sudden and tragic death, along with the loss of her unborn child, has devastated family, friends, and neighbors, leaving a profound void in the community.

    Driver Charged and Legal Proceedings

At approximately 12:45 a.m. on Saturday, 15 November 2025, police arrested Aaron Papazoglu at a home on Millewa Avenue in Wahroonga. He was taken to Hornsby Police Station and faces multiple serious charges, including:

    • Dangerous driving occasioning death – drive in a dangerous manner
    • Negligent driving occasioning death
    • Cause loss of fetus—death of a pregnant woman

Papazoglu, who holds a provisional driving license, has been denied bail and is scheduled to appear in Parramatta Local Court. Authorities have stated that a conviction could result in up to 10 years in prison.

    Public and Community Reactions

The tragic crash has left Hornsby residents in shock and mourning. Many have expressed condolences online, keeping the grieving family in their thoughts. Local community leaders have emphasized the importance of road safety and supporting victims’ families during such devastating incidents.

Official Statements and What Happens Next

NSW Police continue to investigate the full circumstances surrounding the crash. Officials are urging anyone who witnessed the incident or has dashcam footage from George Street around 8 p.m. on Friday to contact Crime Stoppers.

Support services have been made available to the family and community members affected by this tragedy. The legal process will continue as authorities work through the charges against Aaron Papazoglu, and further updates are expected as the investigation progresses.
