Fruitland, FL – November 15, 2025 – The Fruitland and Putnam County communities are reeling after the brutal murder of 36-year-old Cheyenne Kastens, whose life was tragically cut short during a daylight attack outside the Dollar General on North Highway 17. The suspect, 54-year-old Lemar Beasley from Crescent City, has been charged with first-degree premeditated murder following his arrest on Saturday.

    What Happened

The shocking assault took place Friday afternoon, just before 2:00 p.m., when multiple 911 calls reported a woman being viciously attacked in the parking lot of the Dollar General store. Law enforcement arrived promptly, but Cheyenne Kastens had already sustained fatal stab wounds. Despite immediate attempts from emergency personnel to save her, she was pronounced dead at the scene.

Witnesses at the store were left in disbelief as the crime scene quickly became the focus of a large police investigation. Crime scene tape surrounded the parking lot where a routine day of shopping turned into an unthinkable tragedy.

    Investigation and Arrest

Investigators quickly identified Lemar Beasley as the suspect, noting that he had fled the scene immediately following the attack. Witnesses described seeing him drive away rapidly in a vehicle, heading south. This led to a widespread search across rural highways, wooded areas, and local neighborhoods within Putnam County.

Authorities quickly labeled Beasley as armed and dangerous, advising local residents to stay vigilant. The search for Beasley involved air support, K-9 units, and assistance from cooperating agencies, as the community’s anxiety and fear grew over the suspect’s whereabouts.

The manhunt continued throughout Friday night and into Saturday, eventually culminating in Beasley’s capture in Crescent City later that afternoon. His arrest was made without incident, and he was transported to the Putnam County Jail, where he remains held without bail. Investigators have stated that the murder appears to have been targeted rather than random, though the specifics of the relationship between Beasley and Kastens have not been fully disclosed.

    Community Reaction

The murder has left the Fruitland and Georgetown communities in shock. Friends and family of Cheyenne Kastens have expressed their sorrow over the loss of a woman described as friendly, lively, and hardworking. Tributes on social media reflect how much she was loved by those who knew her, with many calling the incident “unimaginable” and lamenting the violence that occurred in such a familiar and safe location.

In response to the tragedy, the Dollar General store temporarily closed its doors, offering counseling services to employees who witnessed the assault. The store’s management expressed their deep condolences and pledged support to the workers affected by the horrific event.

    The Investigation Continues

As the legal proceedings move forward, authorities are continuing to gather evidence, including analyzing security footage and witness testimonies. Investigators are working to build a strong case against Beasley as they prepare formal charges. Prosecutors have stated that they are committed to seeking justice for Cheyenne Kastens and her grieving family.

The Putnam County Sheriff’s Office is calling on the public to come forward with any additional information about Beasley’s actions before or after the stabbing. Authorities emphasized that even the smallest detail could be crucial as the case moves toward trial.

    Closing

The tragic loss of Cheyenne Kastens has left a deep wound in the community, and as the investigation unfolds, those who knew her are left to process their grief. While justice is being pursued, the memory of her warmth and kindness will live on in the hearts of those she touched. The pursuit of justice for Cheyenne and her family continues as authorities work to answer the community’s questions and hold those responsible accountable.

This story may be updated with more information as the investigation progresses.
