A devastating crash in the Denver metro area has left one teenager brain-dead and two of his siblings fighting for their lives, shattering a family and sending shockwaves through the community. The collision happened on December 6, 2025, near Kipling Parkway and West 6th Avenue, according to Lakewood police.

The driver, identified as 22-year-old Andrew Logan Miller, has been arrested and now faces multiple serious charges as investigators say speed played a major role in the crash.

    What Happened

Lakewood police say the crash occurred around 7:30 p.m. on December 6 when Andrew Logan Miller was driving an SUV southbound on Kipling Parkway at a high rate of speed. Authorities say the SUV collided with a bus carrying a wrestling team from Central High School in Grand Junction, Mesa County.

The impact sent 16 people to area hospitals. Three of the injured were siblings riding inside the SUV. Police believe Miller was driving more than 40 mph over the speed limit at the time of the collision, though the investigation remains ongoing.

    Who Were the Victims?

The children involved in the crash were identified by their mother, Suleyma Gonzalez, as Julio Gonzalez (18), Analelly Gonzalez (17), and Christopher Gonzalez (14).

Julio Gonzalez has been declared brain-dead and is currently on life support. His siblings, Analelly and Christopher, remain in critical condition and are in comas.

“I didn’t want to believe it, until they had to do the second testing where they didn’t find blood going through his brain,” Gonzalez said. “My other two are in comas.”

Doctors ultimately confirmed that Julio will never regain consciousness.

    Family Background and Community Impact

Suleyma Gonzalez, a single mother of five, described her children as disciplined students and ROTC members with clear plans for their futures. Two of her children were expected to graduate this year.

“No drugs. No alcohol. They were good kids,” she said.

Gonzalez confirmed that Andrew Logan Miller, the driver of the SUV, was her daughter’s boyfriend at the time of the crash. While grieving, she expressed that she does not believe the crash was intentional.

“I know he loved my daughter,” she said. “I don’t think he did this on purpose or intentionally. It was an accident.”

The crash has deeply affected not only the Gonzalez family but also the students and families connected to the Central High School wrestling team.

    Arrest, Charges, and Investigation Details

Andrew Logan Miller was arrested Wednesday night in connection with the crash. He is currently being held in the Denver County Jail and is awaiting transfer to the Jefferson County Jail.

Police say Miller faces multiple charges, including:

    • Vehicular assault (7 counts)
    • Speeding 40 mph or more over the limit
    • Reckless driving
    • Child abuse (2 counts)
    • Reckless endangerment

Investigators say speed appears to have been a major factor, but Lakewood police emphasized that the investigation is still active. Bond information and court dates have not yet been released.

    Public and Family Reactions

As the community reacts to the tragedy, Suleyma Gonzalez says her focus remains on her surviving children and finding answers.

“My kids know when you get in somebody’s car, there’s always a risk. Always,” she said.

In the midst of unimaginable loss, the family has made the decision to donate Julio Gonzalez’s organs. He remains on life support as doctors search for matches.

“He wanted to give to the world,” Gonzalez said. “Now that I can’t get him back, we want to give life to somebody else.”

    What Happens Next

Lakewood police say their investigation into the crash is ongoing, and additional details may emerge as evidence is reviewed. Prosecutors are expected to formally move forward with the charges once Miller is transferred to Jefferson County custody.

For Suleyma Gonzalez, clarity and accountability remain paramount.

    “I just want answers.”
