An urgent missing person search is underway in Guelph, Ontario, after 71-year-old Gordon, a vulnerable senior living with dementia, disappeared on December 12, 2025. As the December cold intensifies, police and family members are growing increasingly concerned for his safety and are appealing to the public for immediate help.

Gordon was last seen Friday afternoon near a busy intersection in south Guelph, and authorities say every minute matters in bringing him home safely.

    What Happened

According to the Guelph Police Service, Gordon was last seen at approximately 4:30 p.m. on December 12, 2025, near the intersection of Clair Road and Gordon Street. The sighting occurred just before sunset, a critical time when daylight fades quickly during winter.

What may have started as a routine walk never ended with Gordon returning home. Police believe he may have become disoriented due to his dementia, a condition that can make even familiar surroundings confusing and overwhelming. With temperatures dropping overnight, concerns are mounting that he could be cold, lost, and unable to ask for help.

The case has been classified as high-risk, given Gordon’s age, medical condition, and the weather conditions in Guelph.

Who Is Gordon? Background of the Case

Gordon is a 71-year-old Caucasian man who is deeply loved by his family and community. He stands 5 feet 6 inches tall, has an average build, and is easily identifiable by his white beard.

At the time he went missing, Gordon was dressed for winter conditions, wearing:

    • Blue jeans
    • A black jacket
    • A black cap

Family members describe him as gentle and familiar with the neighborhood, which makes his disappearance especially alarming. Due to his dementia, Gordon may not realize he is lost or may be unable to find his way home on his own.

Case Details and Ongoing Search Efforts

The Guelph Police Service has launched an active search and is focusing efforts around the Clair Road and Gordon Street area, including nearby residential neighborhoods, pathways, and commercial zones.

Police say individuals with dementia often seek shelter in unexpected places when frightened or cold. As a result, officers are urging residents to thoroughly check:

    • Backyards
    • Unlocked sheds or garages
    • Under decks or porches
    • Any sheltered or enclosed spaces

Drivers in the area are also asked to slow down and scan sidewalks, bus stops, and green spaces for anyone who appears confused or out of place.

    Public and Social Media Reactions

The disappearance of 71-year-old Gordon in Guelph has prompted an outpouring of concern across social media. Community members have been sharing his description, photos, and police alerts using local Facebook groups and neighborhood apps.

Comments expressing solidarity and urgency continue to spread, with residents pledging to check their properties and keep an eye out. Many are highlighting the importance of community action in missing person cases involving seniors and dementia.

Hashtags such as #MissingPerson, #GuelphAlert, and #BringGordonHome have begun circulating as awareness grows.

Official Statements and What Happens Next

The Guelph Police Service is asking anyone who may have seen Gordon—or someone matching his description—to contact police immediately.

“If you see Gordon or believe you have information that could help locate him, please call police right away,” authorities said. “Even a small detail could make a critical difference.”

Residents who spot Gordon are urged not to wait and to call 911 or the Guelph Police Service immediately.

Search efforts remain active, and police say updates will be shared as new information becomes available.
