It is with the heaviest of hearts that we announce the devastating loss of Dr. Geohaira Sosa, a first-year psychiatry resident physician at UC Davis. Geo tragically passed away in an accident just two months into her residency, leaving our community reeling from the profound sadness of her sudden departure. Having recently moved from the East Coast to California, Geo was full of excitement and hope as she began this new chapter in her life—a chapter that was tragically cut short far too soon.
Geo was a truly beautiful person, both inside and out. From the moment she arrived, her warmth, kindness, and authenticity were immediately evident to everyone she encountered. In just a short time, Geo touched the lives of her co-interns, colleagues, and patients in ways that will leave a lasting impact. Many had already come to regard her not just as a colleague, but as a close friend—such was the depth of connection she created with those around her. She had an incredible ability to make everyone feel seen, heard, and valued.
Her joy and genuine nature radiated through every aspect of her life. Whether she was comforting a patient, sharing a laugh with a colleague, or simply being her true, vibrant self, Geo’s presence was a beacon of light in the often-demanding world of medical residency. She brought a sense of belonging to those around her, and her energy infused every room she entered with positivity and warmth.
As we grapple with this immense loss, we find solace in remembering the incredible impact Geo made in her short time with us. Her legacy of compassion, empathy, and connection will live on in the hearts of those who knew her. Though her time here was brief, her spirit will continue to inspire us in our work and our lives. We are committed to carrying forward her memory, ensuring that the light she brought to our community continues to shine brightly through our actions and our dedication to care.
Our hearts go out to Geo’s family, friends, and loved ones as we collectively mourn this tragedy. We are eternally grateful for the time we had with her and will forever honor the love and kindness she brought into the world.
