A Conewago Township man was hit by his own car in Adams County on Thursday; the York County Coroner’s Office confirmed on Friday that he died at York Hospital following a helicopter ride there. The event took place on Thursday.
The coroner’s office verified that the event claimed the life of Irl Therit Jr., a 63-year-old resident of Conewago Township’s 3500 block of Centennial Road. According to a statement from the coroner’s office, Therit stood behind his manual-transmission rollback flatbed truck after he parked it on his property. This action proved to be fatal for him.
The coroner’s office claims that as Therit got behind his car, the brakes on the car failed to hold, causing the car to crash into Therit. The office has also established that no other persons were engaged in the crash.
At 3:11 p.m., Therit passed away from his injuries after being sent to Wellspan York Hospital with potentially fatal consequences. Thursday, as stated in the press announcement.An autopsy will not be conducted, the notification states; instead, a conventional toxicological test was carried out. He owned and ran Therit’s Auto Repair under his own name, out of his house on Centennial Road.
Emergency services were called to the scene of a pedestrian who had been hit by a car at approximately 1:33 p.m. on Thursday, September 26, 2024, according to the data maintained by Adams County 911. The property in question was located in Conewago Township on the 3500 block of Centennial Road.
