The news of the demise of John Marabella, a well-liked personality in the world of athletics, has left us in a state of deep sorrow. Over the course of his thirty years as a coach at Holy Name and Berks Catholic, John has had an incalculable influence on the lives of a great number of distinct individuals.
During his time as an assistant football coach and as a lifelong softball coach, John devoted himself to moulding young athletes, encouraging collaboration, and instilling a sense of discipline and pride in his players. In addition to coaching, he was committed to mentoring, supporting, and caring for the students for who they were as persons. His enthusiasm for the game and his dedication to the students extended far beyond coaching.
The fact that John had the power to put a grin on everyone’s face was simply remarkable. It was always a pleasure to engage in conversation with him due to his warm and friendly personality, as well as his contagious sense of humour. John had a way of making you feel at ease and welcome, regardless of whether you were a player, a colleague coach, or just someone who had the good fortune to come into contact with him. His smile and joyful spirit were infectious, and he left an indelible mark on the lives of many people who were fortunate enough to know him.
My own experience is filled with many happy memories of our chats, and I will always treasure the times that I was able to spend with him. Those who knew John are left with a significant void in their hearts as a result of his loss; however, his legacy, which includes his generosity, humour, and dedication, will never be forgotten.
