The identify of a Hartford man died in a motorcycle accident in Minnehaha County has been made public by authorities. The collision occurred on Highway 42, nine miles west of Sioux Falls, last Thursday at roughly 6:30 a.m.
The South Dakota Department of Public Safety reports that Kellin DeVries, 56, was traveling west on Highway 42 on his motorcycle.
Simultaneously, a pickup driver was traveling east and attempted to overtake a car ahead of them. According to the authorities, the pickup struck the motorcyclist head-on after veering into the westbound lane.
At the scene, DeVries passed away. The truck’s driver, a 19-year-old Sioux Falls resident, was slightly hurt. The collision is being looked into by the South Dakota Highway Patrol.
When the DPS news release was issued, no charges had been filed.
Duane and Sharon “Sheri” (Johnson) DeVries welcomed Kelly into the world in Pipestone, Minnesota, on January 17, 1968. After completing kindergarten through the ninth grade in Adrian, Minnesota, Kelly’s family relocated to Sheldon, Iowa, where he completed high school.
Kelly attended Colorado Technical University while in his forties and earned a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration in 2014. Kelly spent 19 and a half years as an operational supervisor on the second shift at John Morrell/AmeriCold in Sioux Falls. After that, he spent two years as the supply chain manager at Performance Pet Products in Mitchell, South Dakota.
After that, Kelly spent three and a half years as the warehouse supervisor at CCL Label in Sioux Falls. Kelly began working as the Logistics Supervisor for Manitou Equipment America, LLC in Madison, SD in June 2024.
Kelly loved the outdoors, was a family man, and was a loving parent. He enjoyed hunting with his loved ones. He also loved tinkering on cars, playing darts, fishing, boating, enduro racing, gardening, and most importantly, riding motorcycles.
Kelly would always bring home a hunting tale, such as encountering a buffalo around the corner of a big boulder or burying the pickup in muck. Kelly enjoyed fishing a lot, especially when he was around friends or family.
