According to officials, an accident on Route 6 Monday night claimed the life of the assistant fire chief of a Newtown volunteer fire department.
Following a crash at 6:15 p.m., the police department reported that Church Hill Road, commonly known as Route 6, was closed for several hours. According to authorities, a pedestrian who had been injured was transferred to the hospital and later declared deceased.
Peter Blomberg, 72, of Newtown, was identified by the police as the pedestrian. Blomberg was the Botsford Fire Department’s assistant fire chief.
“We appreciate the outpouring of support so far and ask for your thoughts and prayers,” posted Botsford Fire Rescue on Facebook. We extend our deepest sympathies and appreciation to the Blomberg family during this difficult time.
The pickup truck driver remained on the site and is assisting with the investigation. On Monday night, the route was blocked for a number of hours. At 10:30 p.m., it reopened.
