Those who loved Jack will always appreciate his memory because of his leadership, compassion, and undying commitment. On and off the ice, Jack was a born leader who put his passion and devotion into everything he did.
His warmth brought forth the best in everyone around him, and his strength, kindness, and optimism encouraged his teammates and friends. Everyone who had the honor of meeting him was profoundly impacted by the special fusion of joy, vitality, and compassion that came from knowing him. Jack had an unwavering commitment to his friends and family.
He is survived by his siblings, Grant (and wife Grace, and their son Logan), Gretchen, Blake (and wife Kirsten, and their daughter Savannah), and Grace; his fiancée, Lauren Gydesen, with whom he had a close and affectionate relationship; and his parents, Greg and Dawn Gunderson, who fostered his virtues and strengths. His loss is also mourned by his grandparents, Dick and Dee Gunderson, as well as a close extended family that includes aunts, uncles, and cousins.
John and Leone Ertel, Jack’s maternal grandparents, passed away before him; his family takes solace in the thought that they are now hugging him in eternal peace. The memories of Jack’s kindness, leadership, and humor will live on in the hearts of his family, friends, and everyone else who was impacted by his light. Those who knew and loved him will continue to be inspired and comforted by his legacy of love, kindness, and dedication, even if his absence leaves a deep vacuum.
