A tragic shooting unfolded Saturday afternoon outside Hillcrest High School, claiming the life of 41-year-old Shamaree Siller, a Chicago resident. Siller had attended a boys’ basketball tournament at the high school, where his middle-school-aged son’s team from Prairie Hills Junior High was competing.
The incident occurred just before 1:30 p.m. as Siller and his son were leaving the tournament. According to authorities, a black Infiniti Q50 sedan approached the father and son in the school’s parking lot. Multiple masked gunmen, dressed in hoodies, exited the vehicle and opened fire on Siller, fatally wounding him. Fortunately, his son was unharmed in the attack.
Country Club Hills Police reported that the suspects’ vehicle had a fictitious license plate and was last seen heading toward Chicago’s South Side. Investigators believe Siller was not the intended target of the shooting, and there are no indications he had been involved in any prior conflicts or confrontations. The attackers did not enter the school building, and no other injuries were reported.
Photos of the suspect vehicle have been released as authorities work tirelessly to identify and locate those responsible. Police are urging anyone with information regarding the incident or the suspect vehicle to come forward, as the investigation remains ongoing.
Prairie-Hills Elementary School District 144 released a statement expressing condolences for Siller’s family and calling for community support during this tragic time. The school district reassured families that student safety remains their top priority.
This incident has left the Country Club Hills and Prairie Hills communities deeply shaken. With no clear motive yet identified, residents and officials are left searching for answers and seeking justice for Siller’s senseless death. Local law enforcement is committed to resolving the case and ensuring community safety, calling on the public’s help to bring closure to Siller’s grieving family.
As the investigation continues, authorities are also reminding the public to be vigilant and to report any suspicious activity, as cooperation from witnesses and community members can be vital in solving this tragic case.
