Jamie Lee Komoroski Arrested; – A woman who confessed to consuming alcohol and was driving at more than double the speed limit when she collided with a golf cart, resulting in the death of a bride shortly after her wedding at a South Carolina beach, was sentenced to 25 years in prison on Monday.
Jamie Lee Komoroski received a 25-year sentence after pleading guilty to one count of felony DUI, two counts of DUI resulting in great bodily injury or death, and one count of reckless homicide.
Judge Deadra Jefferson imposed a sentence of 10 years for the reckless homicide charge, 15 years for the two DUI charges involving great bodily injury, and 25 years for the felony DUI charge that resulted in death. Since the sentences are to be served concurrently, she will serve a total of 25 years in prison, as stated by Jefferson.
The groom, Aric Hutchinson, was also injured in the 2023 incident and became emotional in court as he recounted his final moments with Samantha Miller, which were among their few as a married couple.
“On the golf cart, she expressed that she didn’t want the night to end, and I kissed her on the forehead. The next thing I remember is waking up in the hospital,” Hutchinson recounted.
Authorities reported that Komoroski had been drinking at multiple bars on April 28, 2023, and was driving at 65 mph on a narrow road in Folly Beach, where the speed limit was 25 mph, when she struck the golf cart that was leaving a wedding. Her blood-alcohol concentration was 0.26%, more than three times the legal limit for driving. The 34-year-old bride was found deceased in her wedding dress. The groom sustained a brain injury along with multiple fractures. The impact of the crash propelled the golf cart 100 yards.
“I believe the punishment is appropriate for the crime,” Hutchinson remarked following the sentencing. “I do think she feels remorse. However, that does not alter the reality that Sam is gone, my wife is gone, and the family we envisioned is no longer possible, along with all of our injuries. That will take time to process.”
After entering her guilty plea, Komoroski acknowledged her addiction to alcohol and admitted that she had acted selfishly, disregarding the consequences of her actions on others. She vowed to dedicate the remainder of her life to helping others.
