Mathias Likely Obituary, Death; – A 20-year-old man has lost his life, and another individual is facing legal charges following a shooting incident that occurred during an outdoor gathering on Thanksgiving night, just outside Frisco City in Monroe County, as reported by local authorities.
This incident follows a similar shooting that took place at the same venue in February. Frisco City police have identified the victim as Mathias Likely, a resident of Castleberry in Conecuh County. The alleged shooter has been named as Jarviuntae Artrez Hale, also 20 years old, from Monroe County.
According to police reports, the Frisco City Police Department received a complaint regarding loud music around 8:30 p.m. on Thanksgiving, concerning what appeared to be a bonfire event just beyond the city limits on Snider Avenue. A spokesperson for the police indicated to FOX10 News that city officials were unaware of the gathering prior to the complaint. he bonfire was situated on private property adjacent to city-owned land along the boundary of the city limits, as stated by an official.
Shortly after midnight, gunfire erupted between the parking area and the bonfire, resulting in serious injuries to Likely. Law enforcement officers were present on Snider Avenue at the time of the shooting, and the Monroeville Police Department also arrived to assist. The victim was transported to Monroe County Hospital, where he was pronounced dead shortly after 1 a.m., as confirmed by Frisco City police.
Authorities reported that Hale voluntarily surrendered to law enforcement at the Monroe County Corrections Center early Friday morning and has been charged with murder.
