It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Salvatore “Sal” Demartino, a beloved resident of San Diego, California, who passed away peacefully on December 13, 2024, at the age of 69. Sal’s sudden death has left a profound loss in the hearts of his family, friends, and all who had the privilege of knowing him.
Sal was born on April 25, 1955, in Brooklyn, New York, to his loving parents, Maria and Anthony Demartino. Raised in a close-knit Italian-American family, Sal grew up with a strong sense of community, family, and tradition. His early years were filled with the love and guidance of his parents, who instilled in him the values of hard work, respect, and generosity. Sal’s natural charisma and sense of humor made him a beloved figure among his family and friends, and his presence could always be counted on to bring joy to any room.
In his early adulthood, Sal moved to San Diego, where he established deep roots in the community. He quickly became known for his kind heart, loyalty, and generosity. Sal had an infectious energy that drew people to him, and he formed lasting friendships wherever he went. He worked in the construction industry for many years, where his hard work and dedication earned him the respect of his colleagues and peers. Sal was not only known for his skills on the job but also for his ability to bring people together, often organizing gatherings and events that strengthened the bonds within his community.
Sal was a family man through and through. His love for his family was evident in everything he did. He cherished time spent with his children, grandchildren, and siblings, and his home was always filled with laughter, warmth, and the aroma of delicious home-cooked meals. His love for his children, Sophia and Michael, and his grandchildren, Emma and Jackson, was immeasurable, and he was a constant source of support and guidance in their lives. Sal’s children and grandchildren will forever remember the special moments they shared with him, from his infectious laugh to his wise words of advice.
In addition to his family, Sal was passionate about his hobbies, especially cooking, gardening, and outdoor activities. He was a master of the grill, often hosting family barbecues and gatherings, where his delicious meals became the highlight of the day. He also loved spending time in his garden, nurturing his plants and flowers with the same care he showed to those he loved. Sal found peace in the outdoors, whether it was a leisurely walk along the beach or working in his backyard.
Sal’s friends describe him as a true friend — someone who was always there when needed, whether it was for a shoulder to lean on or to share in a good laugh. His generosity extended beyond his family and friends; Sal was always ready to lend a hand to those in need, offering his time, resources, and support whenever possible.
Sal is survived by his children, Sophia and Michael; his grandchildren, Emma and Jackson; his siblings, Anthony and Maria; his nieces, nephews, and extended family, as well as a wide circle of friends who will forever hold his memory in their hearts.
A memorial service to honor Sal’s life will be held on December 18, 2024, at St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church in San Diego, California, where family, friends, and community members will gather to celebrate his life, share stories, and offer their support to one another. In lieu of flowers, the family has requested donations be made to a local charity in Sal’s memory.
Sal Demartino’s legacy of love, generosity, and friendship will continue to inspire all who knew him. His spirit, infectious laughter, and kindness will be missed, but his memory will forever remain in the hearts of his family and friends. GoFundMe
Rest in peace, Sal. You will be deeply missed and never forgotten.
