Jose Rufina Melendez Obituary, Death; – The El Paso Police Department has confirmed the identity of the 23-year-old man who was fatally shot in Northeast El Paso as Jose Rufina Melendez.
Authorities reported that they responded to shooting incidents shortly before midnight at 9435 Diana, where Rufina Melendez was located and subsequently transported to a hospital, where he succumbed to his injuries.
The Crimes Against Persons unit has taken over the investigation, and initial findings suggest that Rufina Melendez was shot while attempting to intervene in a confrontation between two groups in the parking lot of an apartment complex.
According to police, the assailant fled the scene prior to their arrival.
