Seventeen-year-old rising TikTok star Nahsiyah Turner, known to her followers as Siyah, tragically died in a shooting outside a Southern California mall on January 18.
Turner, who had amassed over 310,000 followers on TikTok, was shot in the chest. Authorities responded to reports of gunfire at the Los Cerritos Center shopping mall around 7:30 p.m. and found her unconscious in a vehicle, according to CBS News. She was unresponsive and not breathing when discovered and was later pronounced dead at the hospital, officials said.
The Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department’s Homicide Bureau is conducting an ongoing investigation into the incident. Lieutenant Steve DeJong confirmed the details to The Griffin Gazette, the student newspaper of Los Alamitos High School.
Following news of her death, Turner’s fans flooded the comments section of her last TikTok video—a 15-second dance clip posted just days before the shooting—with tributes.
“I’m still in disbelief,” one commenter wrote, while another added, “Rest in peace, Siyah. We will miss your videos.” Others sent heartfelt condolences to her family.
In a touching gesture, many of Turner’s followers gathered to honor her memory, bringing flowers, candles, and notes to a tribute event. Photos and videos shared on social media captured fans remembering the beloved content creator.
